Clearwire and China Mobile to Develop Interoperable TD-LTE

Clearwire and China Mobile today announced an agreement that will see the companies, in cooperation with the Global TD-LTE Initiative, developing interoperable TD-LTE devices. Specifically, the companies have agreed to develop common test specifications and interoperability testing for TD-LTE devices in the 2.3GHz to 2.7GHz spectrum bands. This will eventually lead to multi-mode, quad-band LTE devices that can run on Clearwire's TD-LTE network in the U.S. and roam onto China Mobile's FDD-LTE network in China. LTE 4G is being deployed on a wide range of spectrum in countries around the world, and international roaming issues have yet to be solved by the majority of device makers and network operators. Clearwire is currently in the process of switching its WiMax network to TD-LTE, with some of the first markets planned to go live later this year.
