Intel, Nokia, and Symbian today announced a collaboration to bring smartphones based on Nokia's Series 60 Platform to market using Intel's XScale processor technology. Intel XScale processors are already found in smartphones based on Microsoft's competing Windows Mobile platform. Nokia also has a similar, existing arrangement with Intel competitor Texas Instruments. In a related announcement, Intel and Symbian also announced a partnership to co-develop a 3G device reference platform based on Symbian OS and Intel XScale technology. The reference platform will enable mobile phone manufacturers to bring differentiated handsets to market faster.
