Jan 19, 2012, 3:04 PM by Eric M. Zeman
The International Telecommunications Union Radiocommunication Assembly has officially ratified the next-generation of wireless networking technologies during its meeting in Geneva. Two standards — LTE-Advanced and WirelessMAN-Advanced — have both qualified as IMT-Advanced technologies. According to the ITU, "IMT-Advanced will use radio-frequency spectrum much more efficiently, making higher data transfers possible on lesser bandwidth." The ITU said that LTE-Advanced and WirelessMAN-Advanced will be capable of speeds that are up to 500 times faster than today's 3G technology. LTE-Advanced and WirelessMAN-Advanced will succeed current technologies, such as LTE and WiMax.
