Kyocera Announces EV-DO PC Card

Kyocera this week is announcing the Passport, (model KPC-650,) the company's first PC card for laptops, and first CDMA EV-DO device. The card includes several advantages over EV-DO cards already on the market, such as the ability to maintain simultaneous 1xRTT and EV-DO connections, permitting seamless handoffs between the two network types. Other advantages include dual-band receive diversity, better SMS integration, and a more sensitive and rugged antenna. Thanks to the extensive optimizations, the card can acheive up to twice the real-world data rates compared to other cards on the market. The Passport is expected to be available by the end of the year.

Interesting.
I winder how much faster this card will be compared to the 5220 and Sierra 580. Compression algorithms make all the difference in the Nation Access aircards, but I'm not sure what effect compression has with the larger bandwidth... and I also wonder if the Curse of Kyocera will strike, rendering the Passport as useless as the 7135... 😡
