Nextel
Nextel merged with Sprint in August 2005, after which Nextel operated as a sub-brand under Sprint. Nextel's iDEN network continued to operate as part of Sprint until 2013, when it was shut down completely. Nextel catered mostly to business users, and offered unique services such as the "walkie-talkie" Direct Connect push-to-talk feature. Nextel used Motorola's iDEN technology, which was based partly on push-to-talk technology, adapted to make phone calls as well. They used an unusual set of small "SMR" frequency bands near 800-900 MHz, which are separate from the 800/850 and 900 MHz (overseas) cellular bands.
