Threatening to cancel with Sprint?

silntdeth

Things not to say while threatening to cancel with Sprint:

-I'm going to cancel with you and go to Boost. They have better priced plans and better coverage!

(Sprint owns boost, but the plans are a little better. You get what you pay for though. As for the coverage? Well, again, sprint owns them. Coverage is either CDMA or IDEN, both of which is run on Sprint's network)

-I'm going to cancel with you and go to Virgin mobile! They have better priced plans and better coverage!

(Yeah, umm, Sprint owns them also. See previous comment)

-I'm going to cancel and go back to Nextel! 0_o

(Put down the pipe and walk slowly away)

-If you guys don't send me a new phone, without a contract, and make it free, I'm going to cancel all 5 ...

Lol. I used to work Sprint customer service. It was horrible.

A story I most commonly give from those days is a customer who called in threatening to leave Sprint because of the huge bills he'd been getting, as well as the old phones he and his other 4 lines were using. Long story short, I convinced him to switch over to the Data Share 1500 plan (which consolidated all the features that he had added a-la-carte over the years) and explained some of the specs on our newer devices.

I retained a customer with 5 lines. I was proud, but my manager wasn't. I got yelled at for running my average hold time up.

Needless to say, I quit that horrible place and now work at a Sprint store 🙂

when people threaten to cancel in my store i ask them if they would like it effective today or at the end of their billing cycle... I generally get a "I will have to think about it" comment back... people think Im gonna bend over backwards to get them a new phone that they dropped in the water with out the insurance after the first 30 days...

Sprint doesn't roam off verizon by default. There are roaming agreements in place (mainly just for Voice, not for data) and it's also not everywhere.

On top of that, there are limits to how MUCH you can roam on sprint, and their any mobile any time doesn't count if your on verizon towers.

So coverage is STILL an issue.

None of the 4 major carriers allow free mobile to mobile calling while off network, and all have limitations to how much you can roam. It's called "reasonable usage" clauses. As far as roaming goes, voice only coverage no longer exists. that went out with AMPS. Sprint's own website plainly states that basic data services are available while roaming.

which is useful for pretty much nothing when it comes to data.

And I know other carrier's policies. but other carriers don't have reps that say "We roam off of verizon" when customers raise issues with coverage.

That's the difference.

I'm not trying to mock sprint. I think it's a great company, where it works, and I hope that the Evo is huge for them.

But claiming Verizon's coverage is COUNTER to what you should be doing. It's telling customers "Hey, they have better coverage than us, but don't worry, they let us use it sometimes."

Sprint needs to build value in their Brand and their Network, not just retort to everything with "but we're cheaper." Customers need to see you as an Equal comparison to Att/Verizon before they ...

The average person is interested in having coverage, when they occasionally travel to rural areas, that provides access to their voicemail, texts, email and facebook accounts; all of which is possible in a roaming area. Why should I pay $40 more per month just so I can have 3G speeds in places I will visit & spend less than 01% of my life?

and they sell phones to people who LIVE in roaming areas, and then get smacked with huge overages when they go over on their unlimited plan.

Sprint is NOT a city carrier (though Wimax is). They have 2 stores in my town and 90% of the towers around here are verizon, which means it does matter.

And you don't have to be in "rural" areas to switch over to roaming. All it takes is one Verizon tower near where you live that's the strongest, and your mobile to mobile goes out the window.

I can't speak about where you live, but where I live, Verizon also has stores that sells service where the reception is weak, so what is your point? If you live in an area where Sprint isn't so good, don't buy them. That's what the 30 day trial is all about. As far as worrying about your phone constantly switching, I say set it to Sprint only while in your home market.

What I'm saying is that these people are buying the phones assuming that they'll get great coverage because they're 'roaming on verizon' and they might. But then their bill comes and they find that all those mobile to mobile minutes are billed a PEAK minutes.

Most customers don't know what to look for on a phone to see if it's roaming, and if they're told that their coverage is Verizon's coverage, they won't WORRY about roaming.

Whether you're buying a house, car or signing up for wireless service, you should always read the contract. No excuses for those who don't. As to misleading statements by Sprint reps; they all do it. Pick your poison.

It's amazing that after this long you still don't get the point of my reply.

I'm saying their current advertising (and what they are training their reps to say. I've hear the verizon roaming from too many reps for it to be spontaneous) is not helping their customer reputation, and in a lot of cases is harming it.

Again, I don't dislike sprint, which is why I posted. I hate seeing a decent company shoot themselves in the foot like this

We're not talking about companies slamming one another. We're talking about Reps making false and inaccurate claims about coverage, especially when their plans are built on the assumption that you WON'T roam (unlimited mobile to mobile)

And no, i don't know it for sure. I never said it was a certainty. I said that considering nearly every rep on here who mentions coverage, and every rep in the 6+ stores across three states I've shopped have said the same thing, that there's a pretty good chance it's more than just something each person thought up on their own.

All reps will say things to close the sale, but typically it is saying negative things about the competition, or about how much better YOUR product is than theirs, not "we hav...

No I'm not. you have a defensive complex.

I created my post to point out an inaccuracy in the OP's post and you flipped out about it.

No matter how many times I say I'm not trying to attack sprint, if I point out ONE inaccuracy (something you even AGREE is inaccurate) suddenly I am trying to pick on them?

Seriously, talk to Slammer, or Kayslay34, or anyone else who frequents the carrier boards. I don't go out of my way to pick on sprint, and I think they're a decent carrier as I've stated MULTIPLE times and yet you still ignore.

So I guess you just like wigging out on people, huh?

Since when has Sprint ran commercials stating you can just use Verizon towers when you don't have coverage? You are making less and less sense as you go. The bottom line is the vast majority of your posts are negative about Sprint. Since you are a Verizon user, that tells me all I need to know. Your "concern" about false advertising would be better served in your own forum as big red is the world's worst.

You are talking about a single thread, one where the OP used FALSE information that I corrected. And then you decided to jump in and try to derail the topic by saying I hated sprint.

Do you even understand how forums work? When you respond to a topic, you are responding to that topic, NOT stating your entire credo in every post. Sorry if you're used to that, but around here we kind of just respond to the topic at hand.

Stop deluding yourself into thinking that everyone who lists ONE critique about Sprint somehow hates them. Not only is this counter productive, but some would call it paranoid.

Sprint's a great company. You don't have to be THIS defensive about it.

You falsely stated that Verizon allows access to this feature even while roaming; they don't. Even after the other person posted a link to VZW own website proving you wrong, you continued to argue, just as you are doing. now. Do everyone a big favor and save your big brother advice for your own company.

And Most of verizon's T&C are written with their America's Choice plans in mind, not Nationwide (which significantly changes how the plan deals with roaming). Which I believe I mentioned.

I'm not arguing, I'm continuing to point out that:
1) you're blatently wrong
2) You don't know how to read a thread, much less the conversation going on within them
3) You have this mother bear complex when it comes to your carrier, that ANY viewpoint that hints at negativism is an outright attack.

I regularly have civil conversations with Sprint, ATT, Verizon, and Tmobile reps. Your posts are nothing but Mother bear protection threads or blatant mocking of other carriers.

Pretty sure that makes your posts the ones that shouldn't exist. If I ...

You are 100% wrong that 1x does not transmit data. All wireless companies charge DATA usage charges to anyone who uses the web or text messaging; even on older, less capable handsets. Only you and a few other folks on this forum try to create a distinction where none exists. As for your contention that I am somehow the troll, well, one place you'll never see me is on the Verizon forum "correcting" false information that often makes it way on there. There isn't a conversation going on here. There was ONE guy posting a mistruth (that had to do with the carrier I use) I pointed out that it wasn't entirely factual and said I agreed with the rest of his arguments.

Most of the people who post here who do things like this are just spoiled teenagers pretending to be someone else. 95+% of my posts are on the verizon forums, news releases, or phone specific forums (android). And most of them are helpful. If you actually knew what I posted you would know that.

And the OP wasn't trying to help customers, he was mocking their excuses they use to get a cheaper deal (as well he should)

But I can see that you're incapable of seeing things only your own way, where everyone either loves sprint or they must hate it. So have fun with your paranoia.

OK, so I've worked with Sprint for two years now, and I am just going to say this. We are not trained to say that Verizon's coverage is our coverage because of roaming and when a customer lives in a roaming zone, I will not recommend switching to a CDMA phone because they will run up roaming minutes and risk being cancelled.
