So, I'm a proud owner of the htc EVO, but I'm having reservations. I use the Samsung Epic everyday at work (seeing as it is our only live demo phone), and I am at a true loss as to which I want.
Of course, the Epic has the beautiful Super AMOLED screen and a physical keyboard (a feature I most definitely am inclined towards), which also helps save power. It has better camera quality (yes, it is 3MP less than the EVO, but Samsung's image processing software is second to none), as well as better touchscreen feedback.
Thus far I've mentioned no reason as to why I would stick with the EVO, but I'll tell you why. I love htc products for a few reasons. First of all, I think Sense is a great product and I can't seem to find a similar clock ...

I can tell you right now the Epic is far superior to the Evo its like knight and day. The Epic has a better screen, better processor, better 3d gaming, better camera and video recording, more camera features, brighter led, light weight, double the memory, better stock apps, and just better in day to day use. The 4g radio on the Epic gets the best 4g battery life of the 2 even better then the Evo on 3g. The Epic 4g is the fastest android phone period and the best smartphone of 2010. 😎

I like the evo, the epic is nice but a brick its so big, add a case to protect and its a palm 755...lol. I like sense, cant standthe epic interface, and I gotta have widgets. no widgets no way. I deal with alot of accounts, about a 70/30 ratio evo to epic

The Epic is a hair thicker then the Evo 0.05mm and it has a full keyboard and double the memory. U add a case to either and they both feel like bricks. The Epic also is much lighter then the Evo and feels better in the hand to hold or make phone calls. The Evo will start to feel like holding a brick after while talking on the phone or playing 3d games because of the extra weight.
You can download sense widgets and tons of other free widgets in the market and adw launcher and launcher pro adds the pinch to zoom and 3d app drawers and a slew of other customizations that sense doesn't have and I'm running both smooth one the Epic 4g. Too many widgets also drain your battery faster so I only use the ones I like.
That's probably because th...

I believe the Epic 4G as I've experienced has a Wi-Fi network hand off problem when dealing with MMS messages.
I don't believe the EVO has this minor inconvenience.
...
It does, You have to turn off wifi to get mms sometimes but it takes all of 5sec to get them.

HTC is better at upgrading the software though, at least for the past couple of years. samsung releases AMAZING hardware products (though a little light for my taste) but support after the initial launch is a bit lacking.
They launched the first gingerbread phone, which is basically a galaxy S (same specs practically) and they're not "sure" if the epic/fascinate/etc will get Gingerbread?

You could always get the Beautiful Widgets app from the market they have sense like clocks if you choose the epic. You could also us laauncherpro for othere widgets like ppl, twitter, and bookmarks. I know a lot of ppl dont like Sense but I think its the best version of android as i find the stock version too plain.

Most of the tangibles go to the epic. All of the other stuff goes to the evo. Its a prettier piece of kit. Its much better supported. The extra megapixels on the front camera ARE a big deal and 2.2 is a big improvement over 2.1.

True they both have advantages over the other. Htc and Samsung have made some truly remarkable almost timeless devices that still trump newer androids released on other carriers well after there 4g launch dates. Sprint customer now have the difficult task of choosing between the 2. 😎
