Is it worth the fees?

I've been thinking long and hard lately about switching to Sprint to get the iPhone 4S. I currently have US Cellular and the service is just fine. I've actually had Sprint in the past, but where I lived at the time the service was terrible. I stopped in at the local Sprint store earlier this week and found out a few things:

-If I switch, my activation fees will be waived because I'm a member of a credit union (Total of $108 saved (3 lines will be activated))

-I will receive a monthly discount of %17 off because of my current employer

-Sprint will 'Buy Back' my current US Cellular equipment (I'll get around $200 based on what the rep calculated)

Saving all of the fees mentioned above and getting a decent credit applied towards ...

some corrections

You cant have your fees waived because of Credit Union disc and then have employer disc of 17%. Both of those are called NVP discounts. The CU one carries 10%. 17% is nice so pay the act fee and then use the 17% you save more down the road than the $36 up front. Check sprint.com and our telesales they and see if there are any fee waive promos or port in credit promos, 866-789-8292.

I was told by the rep in the store that for the first month, they would use the credit union discount to waive the activation fees and then switch to my employer discount to get %17 off the bill monthly. Is this correct/possible?

You can only have one discount on there at a time, also the credit union discount usually waives ONE activation fee. so double check with those reps helping ya out

but switching from a regional carrier to a national carrier totally worth it,but of course i work for sprint so thats just my opinion

I called the TeleSales department and the woman I spoke to said she could waive the activation fees and sign me up for the employer discount. She also said she would call me at 11 this morning....that never happened so I'm not sure what to believe. Instead of waiting for an expected phone call, and then another wait to recieve the phone via mail, I went into a local store to get one. The guy who helped me only asked for the employer discount, not the credit union one. If I called in, do you think they would waive the activation fees because that's what I was originally told over the phone?

Mostly correct. However, you would not be able to get your activation fees waived that way, you are just going to cause yourself headache due to the misinformation from the store and customer service not crediting the bill. Avoid the activation fee by ordering on sprint.com or by purchasing your I-phone for sprint Apple Store.

You have to have the discount already setup as a customer to get those activation fees waived, seeing as your not a customer, it would not be waived automatically.

How can you apply for a monthly discount online? Also, the prices online are higher than the bill estimate the store rep gave me the other day

I would consider the confusion and misinformation a sneak preview into a crystal ball of your stay with sprint!

Very valid point....I'd rather go to Sprint than AT&T though. I've heard nothing but bad things about them (sorry to anyone who has AT&T). I guess there's a reason they only have one store in our area. I'd prefer Verizon, but for some reason they can't have any stores in this area and local numbers cannot be ported

What phone do you currently have? The iphone is great but here is what the co-founder of Apple is saying about it in comparison to Android.

Also, what plan do you have? Depending on which one may not have to sign contracts now but will when you go to Sprint, you would also then potentially lose the ability to earn monthly points, have battery swap, overage protection and overage cap. And you'd be leaving the #1 rated national carrier by consumer reports. It is a lot to consider.

expect to spend alot of time on the phone with customer service. The process for setting up the credit union discount:
Need to register at www.sprint.com/verify.

Need to provide additional form of identification.
Copy of their membership ID, copy of Credit Union statement, copy of card, or discount notification letter addressed to the customer.
Note: Membership ID number is permissible.

Discounts may be forfeited if verification is not received within 14 days.
Email or fax your name, order number, and the additional form of identification.
Email at NVP-EmpVerification@sprint.com
Fax at 877-687-8211

If the store says thier doing this for you....good luck with that actually happening.

Then the adjustment for the activait...

With 3 lines you may want to try Employee Plus Data family plan to price your saving before you commit to it.
Here is the link for info.

For 3 iPhones (16gb) the monthly bill is $154.98 plus tax and you have to pay activation fees.

Good luck!
