Funny, but four days ago (Oct 31), Verizon Wireless was reporting that 94% of its wireless sites were still operating, today (Nov 04), VZ claims a full 96% of their wireless sites are operaional. Yet Sprint is reporting they are only 80% operational in the same area (NYC).

Can anyone explain how it is that Sprint's wireless operations fared so badly in NYC compared to the competition in the wake of tropical storm Sandy? Sprint keeps touting how great their state-of-the-art equipment is, how it is smaller and more flexible and uses so much less power than the competition's older equipment, as a result of the "Network Vision" thing, yet Sprint's wireless network did by far the worst in the NYC area, and is still the farthest behind in resto...

Still, I'm hoping that by the time Sprint gets the Network Vision project completed, the smaller, more efficient cellular gear at the base of nearly every tower will run longer on the available battery power. Also, because the gear is reportedly so much smaller now, perhaps they can place the cabinets full of gear 15 ft or so above the ground, strapped to the poles as it were. I don't know if the tower gear they are buyng is small enough to do that, but if they can do that, I'm sure that would "harden" their network that much more, making them...
