So, I saw this on the front page of PhoneScoop and was pretty surprised as I always thought that US Cellular was doing very well financially and had no need to sell out. Right now I think just about everything is up in the air. I know I can say with good assurance that T-Mobile won't buy us as, not only are they running on a 1900 band only version of GSM, which is horrible in mountainous and rural regions, but they also aren't particularly fond of operating too far out of the suburbs. I would say that a much more likely acquisition would be from the larger three carriers...AT&T (yes they're GSM, but Verizon (CDMA) bought GSM Rural Cellular so anything could happen), Verizon, or Sprint. oh... and of course i forgot to mention my previous encounters with acquisitions. My mom had US Cellular, but decided to switch in December of 2007. At the time, Cellular One (Dobson), who was the other major player in the area, was being acquired by AT&T, where she eventually bought her new phone. However, I very distinctly remember the CellOne rep telling us how difficult the acquisition was on employee, having to be retrained for everything. Also, supposedly, the new terms that they had to go by (as an authorized retailer) were much more complicated after the acquisition, just something to think about. PS... Isn't USCC like the last super-regional carrier now that Alltel will no longer exist after the summer. I'm afraid it's a dying bree...

It is sad to say, but no matter how good of a financial position uscc is in, if the shareholders are not happy, then the company is going to be pressured to take action. All the money in the world does not necessarily ensure happiness. The same could be said here.

YEP sprint does suck but if they had uscc coverage and their name it might work. and open up more phones too.

I don't really see it happen, as USCC isn't likely to be sold anytime soon anyway. Also, Sprint has always avoided lower band frequencies (outside of Nextel) due to propogation issues with lower band frequencies.
So if USCC were to be sold, USCC would still end up being split up, due to USCC overlapping with iPCS, which Sprint hasn't attempted hard enough to buyout. If Sprint did go after USCC, I believe it would be for their PCS spectrum, and nothing else. Even so, Sprint wouldn't be able to acquire USCC in iPCS markets, and that would include places like South Bend & Fort Wayne Indiana, Champaign Illino...

Like Dave73 said there is way too many markets that Uscc competes with iPCS; like most of the mid-west! iPCS is in no position to buy anyone. So how would being divested from Uscc and part of a local or smaller regional carrier help Uscc subs?

The Uscc execs like to compare the company to the big national carries and like to say they are just as competitive. Now would be the time to make that happen instated of just talking.
Take a page from Vz & ATT, open up that check book and come of some of the cash they are hoarding and pick off some of the other smaller carriers. Make a move to buy Cricket form Leap or MetroPcs or some of the divested Altell markets.

If you want to play with the big kid's start acting like one. Push up the EvDo...
