Phones for the rest of us?

Are there any new phones coming out for normal plans?
I saw the post below about new phones coming but I think those are all smart phones?

USCellular is killing me. My wife wanted texting so they talked her into changing plans. Now our bill went up to ~100. They "swear" there's no way to get our old plan back.

Now, the thing is, out of all their phones, I guess I only have the choice of 4 of them? We got Banters, but they don't work very well out here. I'm guessing its an LG problem as her old one did that too. I had a Razr VM3 and it was great. (broken) Unfortunately USCellular is the only cellular company out here.

She wants to keep her banter so far. There's no way I'm keeping mine. So for a texting phone I can c...

You don't have to get a phone with a full keyboard. Flip phones work just fine for text messaging, especially if your local rep can explain T9 texting to ya.

As far as your plan goes, we can't get your old one back. USC retired any previous plans and now only have Belief Plans (exception would be one plan for modems). So with only Belief Plans in place, your old one is truly lost, but you get all the benefits of not signing a contract, earning reward points, auto-pay discount, ect.

Thank you very much Joshiwa,

I very much appreciate your response and will check into T9 texting.

I'm sorry my original post came across rudely. I was annoyed that the only way to continue with US Cellular was to pay more money, or simply give up using cell phones. They seem to have a way to getcha.... once in awhile.

I hope you have a Very Blessed Day

Not sure why it wasn't offered, but you should have been able to add a smaller text plan to your original plan (before going to the new Belief Plan). There was a $4.95/250 outgoing text, $9.95 750 outgoing text . Once you change from a retired plan, you can't go back. Sounds like you weren't given all your options at the time and now you're paying for it, literally. You can look at the LG200, Samsung Profile for non touch screen texting phones and the LG Banter touch and Samsung Messager for touch screen texting phones. None of those require the internet as they are not considered smart phones. Hope that helps.

Hello MaxyMax,
Thank you for your response.

I went to town yesterday and spoke with a sales rep. She was surprised I was having reception problems with the Banter and said that the Samsungs had worse reception than LGs. But after trying two different LG models with no success and previously owning a Motorola which worked great I guess Its Motorola or bust!
It was sad that they aren't carrying Motorola anymore. I saw that new 'tough' model but it was barely holding together and the hinges were already broken from demo use.

So I guess USCellular just doesn't have any phones I can use now.

Be Blessed

I'd check Ebay. Lots of good quality U.S. Cellular phones.

I agree that the number of good notso smart phones is slim. They did add the Samsung Chrono
reently but it is not much, the Wine 2 is a better phone. If they want to upsell me to a smart phone they better offer the one I want! E.G. A new iPhone.

There is better stuff out there than the iphone. Iphone is just a household name so everyone thinks it is a God-like item when in reality there is just as much if not more you can do with Android. Especially more free apps, customization options, and adobe flash, replacement batteries, cheaper handset cost, and thus far 4g data capabilities (not that USC has that out yet but other carriers do and it is not with the iphone).

While the iphone is a cool device, to think that it is the only thing that can provide what you want in a smartphone is really limiting your view.
