I'd suggest a CDMA wireless carrier like Sprint Nextel Inc. as they're a national 1st tier. The Sprint Fair and Flexible wireless plans offer nights and weekends as early as 6pm, unlimited mobile to mobile between Sprint as well as Nextel customers from anywhere on their CDMA network on $39.99/month plans, free off network roaming and overage charges as low as $0.17/minute. For a handset, I'd recommend either the LG 550/Fusic or the Samsung A920.
