Nextel phones on Boost
can a nextel phone like the i880 etc be used on boost?
is it as simple as switching sim cards?
will a ICxxx model work on boost?
thinking of leaving metro and like the "walkie talkie" function

yes, most nextel phones can be used with boost. i believe you can check the boost site to get a full list of compatible phones.
now as far as using the ICxxx phones that is not possible as they were hybrid meaning they used sprints service for the phone and nextels towers for PTT. essentially we would have to program the phone to use the sprint signal and have the sin card only for nextel PTT information.

The Boost Starter Kit comes with a new Boost SIM card that will allow you to have Boost service (Nextel SIM cards will not work in Boost phones). The Starter Kit also comes with $10 credit you can apply to your account. If you have an old Boost SIM card that you'd like to use, you'll be subject to a $10 reactivation fee.

ok signed up for boost love the ptt have the i776 for now i checked the boost website and did not see the i880 listed as compatible my ? is does anybody know why it would not work correctly with boost? any industry insiders/pros know? my phone goes to work with me and i want a sort of tough but feature rich phone with the large display

i now have a nextel branded i880 and i870 in service with boost $50 unlimited plans and they work flawlessly, better reception than my co workers boost brand iden phones in fort worth texas

To my knowledge any Nextel branded iDEN phone that uses a 64K simcard will function with boost mobile. The one exception is the Nextel Blackberry. Boost has no provisioning for blackberry services (MMS, Blackberry Messenger, ETC, Enterprise Server). 😁

The iDEN network itself is actually a very strong network. Texting is miserable, that's true. But iDEN was designed mostly for PTT communications, and at that it it the best in the world.
The morons running Sprint don't care what they sell, as long as they sell something. It is too bad you got sold a bill of goods, but the iDEN network just is not built for what you use your phone for. Texting and data are the wrong use of that network.

Hey guys, good info in this thread.
I have the same situation as Texmarvin, a cheesy i776, and I just bought an i920 through E-bay last night, in haste. My hope was that it would only require an unlocking to work on Boost.
Poweredup's last reply to the original post told me what I needed to know. YEAH! 😁
I haven't enjoyed useing this i776 and if I'd known what I've learned here two weeks ago, then I'd have gotten my i920 before I bought the Boost starter.
None the less, this is good info and as it turns out, not too expensive a lesson after all.

BIG mistake getting the 8350i & putting it on Boost, turns out that BB's are not compatible w/Boost. I can use the phone and PTT, but no text, e-mail, internet not even Wi-Fi. Anyone out there wana buy a 4 day used (new) BB8350i?

How much for the 8350i ?there are tweeks to get your BB working but I'm finding out that it's easier to go to sprint or at&t and sign a contract.
Recently I've started a cruesade to make the i920 smartphone become feature functional on the Boost network...What I've learned is that the above mentioned soloution is easiest, and if you wanna DIY then buy some software CDMA.com and tweek your phone onto the network...best of luck.
