Nextel Phone on Boost

Mobile Cell

Mar 29, 2005, 10:48 PM
Is their a way to use a Nextel phone (i830) on Boost Mobile? How would you activate it if you can?

Also, could you port the number?

Because I am thinking of signing a contract with Nextel and then after use their prepaid service.

i would just use the nextel i830 for the nextel service and get another phone for the prepaid service. i wouldnt switch sim cards, oops, i kind of gave that away. you also need to call up boost and let them know if you want to use your nextel i830 on the boost network how would you. i had a friend who did that and it was easy. (ps i dont tell people to do that though becuase i belive its not right)

anyway, those are my suggesstions.

1. just get the i830 phone for nextel
2. get another phone for boost mobile.
3. call up boost and switch sim cards, but i wouldnt.

i hope that helps. any questions please ask.

The only thing i do not like is that boost mobile phones are very expensive.

I can get a i830 for $30 and sign up for a contract.

After that i wanted to switch to prepaid since i do not think i will use my phone that often.

yea, boost mobile phones are quite expensive. but if i were you i would actually buy it the legal way instead of doing the illegal way. obviously its up to you on what to do, but i cant tell you how to do the other way, since its illegal in my view.

all i can say is just call up boost and ask them. say you have a nextel i830 and that you want to use that on the boost mobile network. that is all i can say about that.

sorry ☹️

Mobile,

There is nothing legal or illegal about this. You are not breaking any laws.

Now, look at it this way. If you cancel your agreement with Nextel after getting the phone for $30 you will have an ETF (early termination fee) of some $150 - $200 (check the contract for the actual amount if you intend to do this).

Add the $30 plus the ETF (plus the activation fee plus any service used to get an actual cost) and see if it is lower than the price of the "boost" version. If it is lower, then buy it from Nextel, cancel the service and pay the bill they send you.

My opinion is that this is most likely not worth the trouble. Without looking I am willing to bet the Boost price is less than all the other stuff added up. You also n...

Any nextel phone that has a boost sim chip in it has none compatibility issues. The text messaging and wireless web may work for awhile and then quit. The phones run on 2 different platforms. The only way to guarantee web and text to work is to have a boost with a boost chip. If text and web arent your thing then you dont have a problem.

This is not illegal if it is possible. Please provide state or federal law that states this is illegal.

If you sign up with Nextel you are going to be under contract and you can't get out of that contract without paying a cancellation fee. Even if you get that phone started on prepay then you will still be paying your MRC on Nextel until you cancel even without a phone on there. And again if you cancel you are going to be paying a cancellation fee of $150+ (I'm not sure what it is for Nextel). They need to make their money back on the discount they give you on the phone.

Hey everybody...
I have an answer to Mobile Cells question.... Boost SIM cards will work in any Nextel Handset, unless of course that handset has been reported stolen and is on a list with Nextel. The very nature of Boostmobile is one that just barely disallows behavior that could be considered by some as un-ethical. We certainly have policies in place that try not to encourage theft of handset but we simply don't have the ability to control the migration of our many handsets and if the phones aren't being used then we don't have a viable business.
How would I activate it ?
Very simple question...You purchase a Boost Sim card with either an activation pin card(worth 10.00) or you just go out and buy a reboost card ($20,$30,$50) and we w...

I bought a i285 boost phone to use on nextel. It was locked of course. I tried the reboot procedure and all and couldn't get it unlocked. I had to go thru a lot of c*ap with getting software to do and buy serial cable. Cost more than the phone but it works fine. I got it for my wife and she 'LOVES' it... until now the battery goes dead too fast. It wasn't brand new, but I also happen to have 5404 slim battery (for nextel) that fits fine but says invalid battery when you try to charge it. I put it an old i60 or one of the i700 phones we have and it works and charges. It will power and run the i285 just not charge. Weird. The i285 seems to not have a great battery life with that one either though.

What to do???
