WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif.: 27 March 2008 – Alltel ranks highest in wireless call quality in two regions and ties with T-Mobile to rank highest in a third, while Verizon Wireless leads in two regions and U.S. Cellular ranks highest in one region, according to the J.D. JD Power also ranked Virgin Mobile highest in terms of network and customer satisfaction among pre-paids, while ranking Sprint near the bottom in it's category. Virgin uses Sprint's network exclusively.

Up until about 2006, much of Verizon's network was still analog, yet JD Power was ranking them at the top then as well. The worst digital network destroys the best analog in every single category imaginable.

JD Power also ranked Buick as the most trouble-free line of cars in initial quality. Buick uses the same parts and is built on the same assembly lines as other GM products.

I used to drink from the Consumer Reports, JD Power Kool-Aid cup, until I realized that none of their research is performed by professionals in each respectiv...

I don't drink from that Kool aid.

But for Alltel. A company that doesn't have the influence of verizon, etc. It's a big deal.

But that said Verizon's network in 2006 was not mostly analog.

Verizon had quite a few analog sites still operating in 2006.

Regardless of how many they had, it's very unlikely anyone would have a top-notch experience using that system.

Yes analog is not any good. But vzw and alltel had 90 percent or better or their analog sites covered with digital by 2006. Now 03, 04....maybe......

And Verizon was ranked #1 even then.

Goes to prove my point.

Yes....but at that time the other digital wasn't developed either. GSM and CDMA was fairly "crappy" at the time. '02 '03 mostly. Lot of dropped calls etc. Just because the networks weren't mature enough. Can't say that verizon hasn't had the best quality calls even then for the time. They do invest more into getting it right then say At&t, Sprint, and some others did in the beginning. Their "superior" reliability is mostly based on marketing more then fact. But it wasn't so in the early days of modern wireless. Late 90's early 2000's.

My point was that Verizon had a mostly analog network at the time, while Sprint, Nextel were both all-digital and had been for years. Any tech will tell you that...

That's true. But their digital networks were vry immature at the time. Causing more dropped calls etc.

Well I guess it doesn't matter it's just one survey of many...

this is unless you live in Kentucky for example, then Alltel just uses a real network, like Verizon 😛 Considering Alltel covers only about 35 states it's really not accurate to even evaluate them. Even Phonescoop lists Alltel as a large "regional carrier" and not a "national carrier"

Alltel has Sprint higher on the priority of the prl then verizon. What does carrier classification have to do with anything at all when it comes to the quality of a network? It doesn't matter where the company has a network. If they beat out another carrier in the same region as them then they beat them out. Just because say costco or meijer/etc doesn't have stores everywhere walmart does doesn't mean they don't offer jsut as good or superior service.

This was a survey. They included Alltel in the same areas where they also have a network. Notice they weren't included in the North east region???? That's because they don't have the same sample size in the same area to make a comparison. They most likely took random samples of customers of...
