Alltel merges with US Cellular, buys up ailing Sprint, takes on Verizon
Imagine, Alltel, which was just recently bought by a large private equity firm, acquires US Cellular and then Sprint.
With nationwide EVDO and WiMax, the Alltel/US Cellular/Sprint empire would be the only true competitor to Verizon's LTE roll-out, leaving AT&T in the dust.
...
Well, if they buy Sprint they probably wouldn't buy uscc.
But it would be nice to see....

That takes quite an imagination...

Not as much as you may think. With everything that alltel has done in the last two or three years, it has all been done to make alltel a true carrier and a true competitor. obviously this has been alltel's intent. And if they are planning to truly become a national competitor then these acquisitions would fall right into the strategy that alltel has shown the last couple years. Long story short... i could see it happen.
...
but Not USC...Alltel & USC have way too much overlap in markets that the FCC would require too much to be divested. Alltel got a lot of USC overlap when it acquired Midwest Wireless last year.
