Transfering phone numbers, Rep help needed!

Can I get an Alltel Rep to give me the correct answer? I am currently with Alltel, when I signed up, I went with the internet package along with a lot of other extra's with a Pearl phone. I am paying a lot of money a month and I would like to now reduce my costs by going to a lesser plan. I was told that I cannot reduce my current plan unless I pay the early termination fee which I can accept. The part I don't understand is that they are telling me that I can't keep my existing phone number and that I will have to get a new number which I don't want to do. Is this true? If so then I will be going with T-Mobile so that I can keep my current phone number. Any help would be greatly appriciated.

If you terminate your contract, you are canceling your service which means you lose your number. If you want to keep your number, get a different phone (not a smartphone) so you don't have to be on a smartchoice plan.....then you can change your plan to something less expensive.

Thanks for your imput. That was my plan, terminate my current contract, buy a Razr type of flip phone and sell my smartphone, then go with a lesser plan. If I do this will I be able to keep my current phone number if I stay with Alltel?

nope phone number is assigned with contract. as soon as you disconnect the number goes into a recycling pool for a few months so the number cant be used by anyone else for awhile. you are pretty much stuck. the cheapest smartphone plan is 70 a month if that helps at all.

If you plan on staying w/ Alltel, you don't need to cancel anything......just get a different phone, change your rate plan and continue doing what your doing. Just because you are changing phones and rate plans doesn't mean you are breaking your contract.....as long as you keep the line of service active then you are good.

If they bought the smartphone at subsidy then they have to remain on smart choice for the contract duration unfortunately. This is the only exception to the anytime plan changes, you can change, but only within the smart choice family if you buy a new smartphone at the discounted rate. However if you buy at retail or off ebay etc then you can change it.

🤣 🤣 🤣 🤣 You're an idiot.....Like I said, you don't have to be on a smart choice plan if you DON"T HAVE A SMART PHONE......so you purchase another phone (NOT A SMARTPHONE) and you change your plan.....can you guys not read?

Alltel can tell if you took the subsidy on the smart phone - doesn't matter if you have a razor - you still took 2yr pricing on the pearl the first time. Therefore you have to stay with the smart choice plan. Here is the exception - you can pay the $200 but not to disconnect - but to break you even with Alltel and kill the exsisting contract - you would not need to change your number - this just makes you eligable to change your plan to a regular plan with regular phone - that is all.

Thanks for everyones help, unfortunately it looks like I will be forced to drop Alltel and probably go with T-mobile seeing that I do not want to loose my current phone number. It is a shame that Alltel is willing to loose a customer because they cannot port my current phone number if I change my plan. 🤨

Listen: Get another phone, change your plan. Trust me......The smart choice plans are for smart phones only....if you don't have a smart phone you don't have a smart choice plan. Simple as that, you keep your number, you keep your contract, and you save some money.

Hey nodeposit...
I guess you did not read the other posts. This is the deal with smartphones and the smartchoice plans...
When you purchase a smartphone at the discounted price and you keep it past the 30 days you must stay on thesmartchoice plan (of any dollar value) for the length of the contract. When you agree to keep the phone you are agreeing to keep the smartchoice plan for 2yrs. If you go in and find someone that will break policy and take it off it will be added back to the account by the auditing system. SEEN IT HAPPEN.
