I was under the impression that Alltel was all CDMA, but a friend of mine and I are traveling and she has Tmobile, and in these areas, the phone is showing Alltel as the provider. Can anyone explain where they have GSM?

HI!

Alltel does own GSM properties. But, the GSM properties were not created by them. Western Wireless/CellularONE were the one's who layed out the GSM properties over existing CDMA towers. Creating very much needed roaming revenue for them. If you might remember Alltel bought out Western Wireless. As part of that merger, the GSM properties in their 33 state region went right along with the gained CDMA properties. GSM is in every market that was once owned by Western Wireless/CellularONE. An easy way to see what GSM properties Alltel has, there is a website complete with coverage maps, not only Alltel, but every US GSM provider, as well as around the world. That website is www.gsmworld.com
