AlletelU Prepaid won't ring when roaming

I have a Candid 16KX on the AlltelU pay per minute plan. Everything works fine on Alltel towers, but when on roam, the phone won't ring when called. The caller hears 2 rings then is immediately directed to voicemail. If the caller leaves a voicemail, the phone beeps within a few seconds indicating the new voicemail, but just won't ring when called when it's roaming. Any ideas? Calling tech support has been fruitless so far. I've gone through the update PRL list about a zillion times since that is all the tech people seem to know.

The phone may only be a single band phone, that will only work on Alltel's network.

The kyo candid can do both.

It is Sprints issue. You are likely roaming on Sprint where you are and they aren't routing the call. One of the ills of Prepaid.

But when roaming, the phone immediately indicates the voicemail has been received and can place calls and send/receive txt. Is there no fix? If so, is Alltel defrauding us by selling a "national" plan that only works on Alltel towers? (and there is a huge area around this part of the country that has no Alltel towers!)

I have heard of Alltel's prepaid doing some pretty messed up things and no one can really explain why. My suggestion is to call 800-255-8351 and when the system asks for the number you are calling in reference give them a post paid phone number that way the system routes your call to "Alltel tech support" and not the prepaid tech support who seem to be in another country and clueless.

Good luck and I hope that helps,

Adam

Stupid question: Do you have money on there? If you are roaming where it charges you, you need to prepay for that too. If not, then I'm not sure....by the way- roaming is using towers that aren't alltel's so how is Alltel responsible if "Sprint" towers aren't working correctly?

If the phone is a dual band phone, and can roam, I'd recommend to force the phone to roam. Could also be stuck in a switch. That seems to be a common issue.

Yes, it can roam. The problem occurs when it is roaming. Calls ring through ok when it is not roaming. What does "stuck in a switch" mean and how can that be fixed?

I was under the impression that all the MAJOR carriers' prepay ONLY work on their native networks...

Is there any chance there is some obscure setting in the phone itself causing the problem, or is the problem something Alltel has to address? I know there are settings in the phone to prevent roaming etc., but all of those are set to allow roaming. It can dial out fine when roaming, it just won't ring when someone calls it - they are directed to voicemail after 2 rings. Texting is fully functional when roaming, both send and receive.
