Merger/Phones question

Quick question. I hate to be that guy, but I don't feel like reading every thread posted here so I just want to ask a simple question. If/when this merger takes place, will I be able to but a Verizon phone and stay on an Alltel plan? Verizon clearly has better phones but i like the plans/service of Alltel. If so, when would be the earliest I can expect to do this. I am able to upgrade whenever.

I would have to say no as when you buy the phone it will require a new contract if you buy it from a store and not at full cash price. You can buy VZ phones now and put them on alltel..

Ducati are you sure you can put a VZ phone on Alltel now. I know you can put a Alltel on VZ but I was told not the other way. I was at one of the Alltel stores last week and the manager was tring to put a alltel on for a customer but he could not get it to work

Alltel's policy is ONLY Alltel phones - Yes other carriers phones may work - I have seen it time after time non-Alltel phones result in HUGE roaming bills and angry customers. Until the merger Alltel's network is only for Alltel phones.

So, let me get this straight. If I wanted to, when that new Blackberry Storm is available, I can go get it at VZ and sign a new contract with Alltel to get it at the 2 year contract price?

No, you'd have to get a contract with verizon.

thats correct you would then get a Verizon contract. I would wait till the merger is done. I know in my area there is not Verizon around so I would have to go close 5hrs away to get one and then my number could not be ported over. But if I wait till the merger is done then I could do that

Okay. I'll just wait it out til the merger. Alltel phones are sub par when compared to VZ or ATT. Maybe it happens soon or Alltel gets something decent. Thaks for the help.
