Foldable

image

A form factor for mobile devices that relies on flexible-display technology and a complex hinge to physically fold, changing size and/or shape.

Common designs fold 180ยบ, in half. Some common foldable phone designs fold open to be larger than a standard phone (closer in size to a tablet), while others fold closed to be much smaller than a standard phone when not in use. Both of those types have a large inner display that is flexible and bends in the middle. They usually also have a second, smaller, non-flexible display on the outside.

Foldables are made possible by pOLED display technology, a type of OLED display that has a flexible plastic base layer, instead of the traditional, rigid glass.
