TCP/IP

Abbreviation for Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol.

Two interrelated protocols that are part of the Internet protocol suite. TCP breaks data into packets. IP routes packets.

TCP/IP was originally developed by the U.S. Department of Defense.
