The report says that U.S. homes boast 425 million internet-connected devices compared to a population of 315 million. The breakdown of the devices are:
Desktops & laptops – 183.8 million
Smartphones – 133 million

Battery life w/iPhone 5 wifi hotspot

I have a long train commute and try to minimize battery usage on the phone. Battery is no problem on the ipad and I usually connect the ipad to the phone wifi.

Wondering what sucks more juice on the iPhone... Running the wifi hotspot w the screen off or using the phone directly for browsing the web and such. Guessing the former, but any thougnts?

Cheers, all.

Purple Lens issues- IPhone 5

Apple has responded to the fallout over the iPhone 5's purple lens flare effect, saying it's due to position and the device's smaller camera.

Apple is pointing the finger of blame squarely back at iPhone 5 users complaining about a purple lens flare effect the smartphone’s camera is creating. In a public support document, Apple says:

“Most small cameras, including those in every generation of iPhone, may exhibit some form of flare at the end of the frame when capturing an image with out-of-scene light sources. This can happen when a light source is positioned at an angle (usually just outside the field of view) so that it causes a reflection off the surfaces inside the camera module and onto the camera sensor. Moving the camera sligh...

iPhone 5 And its New Screen

I have heard so many rumours circling around, but here is what I think it'll be like.

The new screen ought to be:
16:9 aspect ratio for watching movies
Continue to support older iOS apps
Maintain Retna Display designation

At the current size, the 3.5 inch screen of the iPhone 4/4S is 329 PPI.

However, Retna Display designation is not a set number, rather it is the relative point by which one cannot differentiate one pixel from another. With a larger screen, one would hold it slightly farther away, so we can allow the PPI to decrease slightly with no ill affects on our designation or apparent screen quality.

All these criteria can be met by simply making the screen no larger than 4.3 inches, and increasing the resolution from 9...

New Case for iPhone 4s

🙄

Looking to purchase an iPhone 4s case. I heard that the otterbox impact cases are really good, and that they are reliable. What is everyone elses thoughts....? Also does anyone know where they are really good priced? I've only found it inexpensive on this website.

Here is the one that I'm interested in:

iPhone 5 Design

I have seen early pics of the iPhone 5 and it looks like an iPod touch.
Does anyone have anything to add to that?

iMessages...whats the point? (Longish)

As I understood it iMessages were free. Yet my iMessages were/are being pulled out of my text allotment with VZW.
Yes the message bubbles were blue, yes it says iMessage where you enter text, yes I was on a data network 3G/Wi-Fi, yes iMessages is turned on in settings, and yes the others have iOS 5 devices.
Well is as many weeks I called VZW because I'm fast approaching my text message limit and they assure me this isn't possible. "Well I'm looking at my text message details right now and there are about 65 messages registered without any description as to what they are. Domestic text, MMS, etc." VZW "That can't be possible, iMessages use data not SMS. Let me fill out a trouble ticket. But in the mean time for $7 more a month you could get...

failure for outgoing call

For a week, my IP 3GS, could not make an outgoing call, but could receive incoming call, or sent text message as usual.

Later I realised, this was caused by applying flight mode before going to bed at night.
Though not sure, I could reactivate the phone by switch call waiting from OFF --> ON --> OFF.

This problem never happened before !
Could anybody advise how to correct it permanently, and can use normal flight mode as necessary. Thank you.

Co-founder of Apple an android fan

Good stuff here. I like the iphone and think it is a good device, but as Steve says in the article he recommends them for apple users and/or first time smartphone users because of ease. Going beyond that would push you to becoming an android user.
