Verizon Wireless XV6800 GPS - Google Maps???

CrazyLife

I have the HTC XV6800 with Verizon Wireless. I must say I love the phone except that I am unable to use "My Location" or GPS when using Google Maps. I know other carriers allow you to use google maps and can get a pretty good range on your location. Is there a way that I can use Google Maps AND have the phone show me my location?? I would love to use it when driving when I get lost =P

Thank you in advance for your help! Sorry if this is an easy/silly questions!!

I spent about 3 hours on the phone yesterday with Verizon myself for this exact issue. I too had an HTC VX 6800 and liked the windows mobile version. When I called HTC, they indicated that Verizon had the GPS chip "locked down." With that in mind, I had the opportunity to turn mine in for the new Samsung Omnia, because the sales guy I spoke with said it had "GPS." Well...it does and it doesn't. After 3 hours on the phone yesterday with Verizon, including a call directly to Samsung, I determined that Verizon doesn't tell the entire truth when they advertise they have phones that have GPS, which in my personal book is the same as lying or doing the ol bait and switch. What they offer is their own VZ Navigator that you can buy for a fee o...

While I understand your situation, and I know that the Big Red does tend to stretch the truth and tell white lies (but let's be honest, ALL carriers do that), but I fail to see how they breached the contract.

It's their phone before they sell it to you. They make the choice as to what applications and programs the phone will be able to access through their network. They reserve the right to block any access to any website or program they choose to.

That's why you have a 30 day return period with VZW. It took you more than 30 days to figure out that you wanted to use the GPS on the phone? Seriously?

You had every opportunity to look at services and ask questions before you made any choices. Seriously, you KNEW you wanted GPS be...

simple answer? they mislead me. I am within my 30 days and can take it back. The thing is, they won't let me out of my contract. I presumed...I know it's probably wrong to do this, that when they said GPS, they meant it the way the rest of the industry does.

It works that way with Sprint, AT&T, and Tmobile, you'd think that it would be the same with Verizon...and little white lies like this aren't so little. It's unacceptable. "It depends on what the definition of 'is' is." What a bunch of crap. That's not service, that's let's see how much I can steal from you!

No, that's called being a business. They offer a service you want. You pay for said service, or do it yourself.

That's the way the world functions. It's got nothing to do with other carriers.

They did not lie to you. It DOES have GPS, just not the GPS you want. So sad, too bad.

Besides, if you return within your 30 days, your contract FOR THAT PHONE is revoked. If you were under contract prior to that, then you revert back to your initial contract.

If it's such a big deal to you, go actually spend the money and buy a real, actual GPS system. No cell phone currently is capable of handling a real GPS system as of yet. All the ones that are offered are gimpy on cell phones.

Remember, it's a cellphone first, eve...
