Motorola V551 & PC with Bluetooth

I'm seriously considering to get the Motorola V551 phones for my family plan with Cingular.

However, I would like to know a bit about how Bluetooth works as I need it for downloading the pictures and video clips that I capture with this phone into my PC. I don't want the internet or any other data service from Cingular.

First, is it possible without subscribing to multimedia service?

Secondly, what do I need to do for my PC to enable the Bluetooth networking with my phone?

Thanks in advance.

I have my V551 talking via Bluetooth to my Win XP Dell notebook.

Yes, you can transfer pictures and video clips without subscribing to anything. I bought Motorola's Mobile Phone Tools program ($30), but it seems like it's not really needed to transfer files, since my phone shows up as a device on my Bluetooth explorer and I can navigate to its folders for pictures, etc. It seems to transfer via FTP over Bluetooth.

Run over to a local electronics/computer store (Fry's, CompUSA, etc.) and pick up a USB Bluetooth adapter. I got a Linksys for $45, but there are others (Belkin, etc.). Thanks Paul,

I can't wait to get my Cingular phone service with Motorola V551 phones. I still have to wait for a few more weeks to have my Sprint contract expired.

Two quick question.

Would there be any difference between the class1 and class 2 USB Bluetooth adapters other than the distance?

Can you have multiple items hooked up via one USB Bluetooth adapter such as phone and a mouse?

Thanks.

Sorry, I don't know enough about Bluetooth to know all the differences between class 1 and class 2. The Linksys USB adapter I got (USBBT100) says it's a class 1 and it works fine.

Yes, it seems like you can have multiple items hooked into your PC's Bluetooth "network" at once. I had both my V551 and my friend's PDA talking to my laptop at the same time. I assume this is generally true, although I'm not a Bluetooth guru.

ZzyzxTek, when I try to connect my V551 to my PC I can find it, but only as a modem. Under what type of device is yours shown? Is it showing under a PAN?
