Motorola Address Book

Is there a way to hack Motorola phones to change the behavior of the address book? I had an LG phone before and used to be able to type in several letters and press FIND and it would do a search. I have about 300 contacts in my Motorola, and the best I've found I can do is press the letters to jump to that letter in the phonebook, but then I have to page through all the entries for that letter to find the one I want. It's all software, right? Has anyone written a hack or program that can add the search function to a Motorola? I don't want to switch back to LG due to the reception/clarity issues, but it is such a pain to find contacts on this thing! I am thinking about an e815 to replace my V60s but now I may wait for the Verizon Razor ...

First off no, there is no hack that I know of, but then again im just a salesguy. But whats nice about the new Moto phones is obeymoto, where you dial everything with voice commands. Then add in bluetooth functionality and the scrolling thru the phone book thing becomes obsolete. Check it out I think you will be impressed.

How does obeymoto work...is it one that you have to program by recording the name yourself, or does it truely match voice to text?

Also, say I have 4 "John's" in my address book and I say "call John"...will it do a search and show me those 4, or do I have to say call John Jones vs John Smith...(sometimes you just remember the first name or last name, but not the other way around). That is what I liked about LG, I could type any several letters and it would find those entries only whether it found the letter sequence at the beginning, middle, or end of a name.

It does not need training, which means as soon as you save a name in the phonebook it is available for voice activated dialing. It truely matches voice to text.

For your second question I will have to say that it is not perfect, but I have 5 Jessica's in my phone book, and I simply attach their last initial to the phone book entry. Then I just say call jessica m and it goes. Hope this helps.

I put all my contacts in last name and the first name...the problem is, sometimes I forget what the last name is and then have to page through my entire list to find them. I guess with this I will have to say "Smith John" if that is what I put their name in as.

I have 5 of these phones and I HATE the address book function. It says it syncs with your computer but you can't put in actual address or notes. It syncs with my calendar but, once again the fields are limited to 4 with no room for notes or the address where the appointment takes place. I agree it is just software. I've asked motorola to do a software update--happens on computers all the time, why not phones? You can down load all those damned games and ringtones but if you want a decent calendar and address book you're out of luck.

The voice dial works but the time is short. I don't think it will accept 6 syllables. The speed dial numbers being assigned automatically is awful. If you reassign the speed dial number it erases the e...

New flashes on the RAZR allow this. You can expect this feature to be standard on all upcoming Moto phones.

Hi there,
what do you mean "new flashes will allow this"? I have the same problem, and I still can not believe how un-functional is the adress book in the Razor V3! I started missing my old nokia 2 hours after buying this V3.
Anyway, any tips to get that stupid adressbook more manageable will be most appreciated.

Well, flashing is not for faint of heart. But if you're willing to accept the possibility of turning your phone into a paperweight if done incorrectly, the new flashes are all available at http://motox.us. There are flashes and reflashes and guides on how to use them at Motox101 link.

The first reflash on this page specifically states phonebook multi-letter search... http://motox.us/reflash.php

You can also look on Motomodders.com and howardforums.com for flashing instructions.
