V710

Sicilian

Sep 2, 2004, 6:48 PM
I just got the V710. i bought it to the beach last week and got a text message. I showed it to four of my friends and we couldn't even read the display. I adjusted the brightness and contrast and it did not help. I wrote to Motorola and they told me that's how the phone is made. So I basically told them I'm a Verizon Wireless employee (which I am) and I would be sure to let my co-workers know that the display can hardly be read in bright daylight. Anyone have any suggestions other than going back to my LG 6000 which I loved?

Wow...THAT was helpful.

What I have found to work in bright light situations is to get a piece of clear amber film, place it over the display, and then adjust the brightness and contrast of the display. It does distort the colors just a bit, especially blues, but at least you can see the darn screen!

Good luck. I don't see moto making any changes anytime soon.

Try either the Nokia 6255i, the Panasonic X700, or the Audiovox SMT 5600/SPV C500 (HTC Typhoon). All three of them have features comparable to the horrible V710...

Btw, 475 pages in Phonescoop forum of complaints & questions on how to use the V710...?!?! Got to be the worst product rollout of ALL time for a cell phone! Motorola should be ashamed of themselves. 🤭

You know most phones are hard to read in direct sunlight, unless they have a powerful backlight, which means a shorter battery life. Its the lesser of teh two evils I say and not a bad decision on Motorola's part. Oh and dont mind Kenga, if you read his posts he seems frothing at the mouth when it comes to Verizon and the V710. People who dont have the patience to allow new phones to mature should not be buying them in the first place.

I had no problems with the LG6000 at the beach reading the display. I still cant get the 710 to work on a sunny day outside.

I have a better suggestion - multi-BILLION dollar cell phone manufactures and multi-BILLION dollar wireless providers should not release a defective phone on the unsuspecting public...

I try to stay at least casually informed via phonescoop, so I avoided that expensive paperweight to begin with... Btw, how can you defend a phone with over 475 pages of complaints & questions on how to use it posted in phonescoop alone???

for the sake of bein fair to everyone...about 200 + of those pages were racked up BEFORE the release of the v710. I've been lookin in on this forum since I heard about the v600, and I remember when the 710 was announced. The forum on the 710 racked up about 250 pages or so before the phone was released in Aug. and not all of the posts since have been complaints. I've noticed that a lot of them have been questions that were easy enough to find in the manual, people were just too lazy to look.

Disturbed1, I admit what you wrote is true... But still, most phones only have a couple of pages at best, and you gotta admit that even with your numbers that has still got to be a record of some sort.

I guess I am like a lot of other people on here when it comes to the V710. I *really* wanted to buy one. But when I found out (eventually) that Verizon, with Motorola's complicity, disabled a bunch of key critical features (like file transfer via bluetooth) probably in order to make a few extra bucks, I was just dumbfounded by it...

Especially since I have been a loyal Verizon customer for years now, and this is how they treat me??? Like a piggy bank to be plundered instead of a loyal customer & shipping a good product in order to ...

you've got a point with the 710 havin a buttload of pages more than the common phone. And like you when I first saw it I thought it would be gold for whatever company that grabbed it, but I do understand why VZW would do some of the things that it did. It allows them more marketing and use of GIN from the people who obviously spend $$ on their phone. (otherwise they'd have gotten something cheaper) After they saw that these people were pissed and some probably threatening cancellation, they got the firmware upgrade to allow full connectivity. It's understandable from a marketing perspective. But it was wrong.

On top of all that I've REALLY become tired of hearing about the V710. It's been on everyone's lips since March, and now that...
