Verizon bought out Audiovox?
Why are all the audiovox phones offered by verizon now under the name "verizon wireless" rather than "audiovox/utstarcom" like before. For example the 8940 used to be listed as Audiovox CDM-8940, and now is listed as "VerizonWireless CDM-8940". Can anyone clarify?????

Verizon did not buy out Audiovox. Audiovox will no longer be manufacturing handsets anymore. They have sold out that part to UTStarcom. This new company decided to use the carrier name on their new phones until a new logo and marketing campaign would be introduced. The new logo was just launched this week and you will now start to see the UTStarcom logo on future items.

Audiovox NEVER made any CellPhones. They only put their names on the Units...
Years ago Toshiba was the ONLY company that made Cell Phones for Verizon in the analog days...Then the Last Phone that was made by Toshiba was the Great 9900,Its a shame,, Tohiba made the best phones for Verizon and Sprint
Then Hyundai or if you want to call them UTStarcom has been making the cheapest phones just like their Hyundai Cars for Audiovox....
Verizon will not buy audiovox because audiovox does not make anything anymore, they just put their names on whatever they sell.
And plaese get your info right in the future.JT

Hyundai makes cell phones?
...
Possibly, they are a South Korean company and most of the South Korean companies that I have seen make everything under the sun. If they do, I'd say give them a couple of years to get it under the belt, and then every one will have Hyundai phones. If there phones are anything like their cars, then we can expect some great things from them.

UT Starcom at least makes phones, but they are also set up as a distributor of certain phones. For example the Casio G'ozone is being marketed in the states by UTStarcom. So they are kind of a blend between the old Audiovox and UTStarcom.
