OnePlus 5/5T Score Android 9 Pie In Latest OxygenOS Beta
OnePlus today made Android 9 Pie available to the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T through a new open beta of OxygenOS. The introduction of Pie gives the 5/5T a brand new user interface based more on swiping gestures. The beta includes Pie's Do Not Disturb mode, which lets people be more proactive about silencing their phones. In addition to the core features of Pie, OnePlus improved the UI when calling 911 and when using speed dial, and made it possible to assign a specific SIM for a specific contact or group when using two SIM cards. The 5/5T gain support for more parallel apps, including Telegram, Discord, IMP, and Uber. OnePlus made a number of changes to the weather tool. For example, it now automatically displays the weather for the current location, offers more suggestions when performing place searches, and fixes bugs impacting the ability to properly locate certain cities and towns. Owners already taking advantage of the OnePlus open beta program will receive Android 9 Pie as an over-the-air download. Those not signed up will need to do so in order to gain access to the updated operating system. OnePlus says the OTA download will reach users in phases over the next few days.

OnePlus has begun rolling out OxygenOS 5.1.5 to the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T phones. Both phones see user interface improvements to OnePlus Switch, with better support for app data migration and general bug fixes and stability improvements. OnePlus Pushing Android 8.1 Oreo to the 5 and 5T
OnePlus is delivering a small update to its OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T phones. The update primarily moves the system to Android 8.1 Oreo with the April 1 security patch from Google. The 5T, in particular, gains new gesture support for the home screen. The swiping gestures are similar to those used by the Apple iPhone X. OnePlus says the update adds new optimizations to gaming mode, such as power savings and pausing adaptive brightness, and boosts network priority for the in-progress game to the foreground. The launcher gains new category tags in the search section, and the launcher will now automatically name folders based on categories. The update is being rolled out incrementally. OnePlus says it will push the update in small numbers over the next few days with the majority of 5 and 5T devices to earn the update over the next week or so.
OnePlus Sold Out of 5T In North America, No Plans to Restock
OnePlus has sold through its supply of OnePlus 5T handsets in North America and will not replenish its stores, reports Engadget. Kyle Kiang, head of global marketing and general manager of North America at OnePlus, said the 5T met stronger-than-expented demand in the U.S. and Canada. The demand led the phone to sell through weeks earlier than planned. The company won't divert 5Ts meant for other markets to the U.S. due to the hassle of changing out charging adapters. With no 5T stock remaining, OnePlus doesn't have any phones to sell in North America until its next device is ready. The company has for the last two years announced two phones each calendar year, one at the end of the first half and another at the end of the second half. It could be up to three months before OnePlus has a new device to sell in North America.

OnePlus Confirms 40,000 Customers' Data at Risk
OnePlus today said up to 40,000 customers' credit card data may have been lifted in an attack. Earlier this week, OnePlus customers reported fraudulent activity on their credit cards after making purchases from OnePlus' web site. OnePlus says its investigation shows the company was indeed compromised. "One of our systems was attacked, and a malicious script was injected into the payment page code to sniff out credit card info while it was being entered," explained the company. "The malicious script operated intermittently, capturing and sending data directly from the user's browser. It has since been eliminated. We have quarantined the infected server and reinforced all relevant system structures." OnePlus believes people who used its web site between mid-November 2017 and January 11, 2018, may be impacted by the breach. At risk are credit card numbers along with their expiration dates and security codes. OnePlus says customers who used PayPal aren't affected. The company has emailed everyone it believes may be at risk. In the mean time, OnePlus suggests those who made purchases on OnePlus.net during the above time frame should examine their bank statements for any fraudulent charges. "We cannot apologize enough for letting something like this happen," said OnePlus. "We are working with our providers and local authorities to better address the incident. We are also working with our current payment providers to implement a more secure credit card payment method, as well as conducting an in-depth security audit. All these measures will help us prevent such incidents from happening in the future." The company thanked its customers for their understanding and its community for its continued support.
OnePlus Investigating Customer Credit Card Security Lapse
OnePlus said it is taking customer complaints about compromised credit card data seriously and is investigating around the clock. Nearly 200 people who purchased products from OnePlus' web site reported fraudulent activity on their credit cards afterwards. As a precaution, the company has disabled credit card payments on its web site and is only accepting PayPal for the moment. The company insists that customer card data is never processed or saved on OnePlus.net; instead, it is sent directly to its PCI-DSS-compliant payment processing partner over an encrypted connection where it is processed on secure servers.”‹ While the company investigates, OnePlus suggests all customers contact their credit card issuer and/or check their statements to ensure there is no fraudulent activity. OnePlus concluded by saying, "This is an ongoing investigation. We are working with our third-party providers, and will update you on our findings as they surface. Information security is a very serious topic, and it has always been one of our top priorities." OnePlus smartphones, such as the OnePlus 5T, are only available to purchase from the company's web site.
OnePlus Eying U.S. Carriers As It Preps Next Flagship
OnePlus is looking to grow its business beyond the enthusiast crowd. Speaking to CNET, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau said, "If the right opportunity and right timing come along, we'll be very happy to experiment" with a distribution deal with U.S. carriers. OnePlus handsets are available only from the company itself. Striking a distribution deal with a U.S. carrier would give the brand far more visibility. For now, OnePlus believes it can earn more sales via its reputation. Lau also noted the company's next handset is arriving toward the end of the second quarter and it will make use of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor. "Of course, there's no other choice," Lau said. OnePlus is not sure if it will produce two flagship handsets in 2018, as it has done the two previous years. Last, OnePlus expects to bring the Face Unlock feature, first offered on the 5T, to its older 3 and 3T handsets. "There's no reason to withhold features we can easily implement," said OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei.

In other OnePlus news, the company recently introduced a new app called Switch that's meant to help people transfer content from one phone to another. Switch can migrate contacts, messages, call logs, photos, videos, audio, and apps. OnePlus hopes to add support for WiFi history, camera settings, app data, and more down the road. OnePlus Pushing OxygenOS 4.7.6 to 5T
OnePlus this week began distributing the OxygenOS 4.7.6 system update to its OnePlus 5T flagship handset. The update targets camera and system performance. For example, OnePlus says OxygenOS 4.7.6 provides stability and clarity improvements to the camera, particularly when taking selfies in low light. The camera should also work better with third-party camera apps (think Facebook and Instagram). On the system front, the latest software build introduces assistive lighting for face unlock, improves screenshot and WiFi behavior, and installs the December security patch. OnePlus says the update is rolling out over the next week or so. In other OnePlus news, the company has committed to bringing the 5T's face unlock feature to its mid-2017 flagship phone, the OnePlus 5. Moreover, both the 5T and 5 will soon see the Android 8 Oreo update.
OnePlus 5T Scores OxygenOS 4.7.4 with Performance Tweaks
OnePlus today made OxygenOS 4.7.4 available to its OnePlus 5T flagship smartphone. The update delivers optimizations to the camera and overall system. For example, 4.7.4 cleans up the camera app's user interface and also improves photo quality. After installing the update, people who own the 5T should experience better audio quality from the built-in speakers and from headphones. The face unlock and fingerprint tools should be more stable, and the wifi radio's battery performance and the vibrate alert's behavior should be improved as well. The update also makes further unspecified performance optimizations and bug fixes. It does not repair the DRM-based HD streaming deficiency reported earlier today. OxygenOS 4.7.4 is free to download over the air.
OnePlus 5T Can't Stream HD Content from Netflix, Google, Amazon
The latest flagship smartphone from OnePlus cannot stream video content from certain providers in high-definition, according to The Verge. The services impacted include Amazon Prime Video, Google Play Movies, and Netflix. The OnePlus 5T has a full HD+ display and a powerful Snapdragon 835 processor with 8 GB of RAM, meaning the hardware is certainly capable of delivering HD content. OnePlus confirmed the issue to The Verge and said a future update will resolve the deficiency. The issue pertains to the 5T's lack of support for Widevine Level 1 DRM, something content services often require for HD streaming. OnePlus did not say when the software fix might be made available.
OnePlus 5 Earns Oreo Beta; OnePlus 5T Breathes OxygenOS 4.7.2

This update brings with it picture in picture, auto-fill, smart text selection, new Quick Settings design, parallel apps, the October security patch, notification dots, and a new app folder design. OnePlus' Open Beta program requires users to download the ROM and sideload it onto their device, which means some technical know-how is needed. One the initial install is complete, devices with beta software installed will receive future beta updates over the air. OnePlus warns there is no backward path for downgrading to the stable, public release channel without first wiping the device. Users will need to enroll in the Open Beta program in order to gain access to the code. In other OnePlus news, the company has updated its new handset, the OnePlus 5T, to OxygenOS 4.7.2. This is a maintenance update that chiefly fixes bugs and smoothes out performance. Notably, the update improves the fingerprint sensor and face unlock features. OxygenOS 4.7.2 is free to download over the air.
OnePlus 5T Available for Sale Today as OnePlus 5 Runs Out Of Stock
OnePlus today said its OnePlus 5T flagship smartphone is now available for sale online. The device, announced earlier this month, in an update to the OnePlus 5. It stretches the screen to 6 inches, adopts the 18:9 (2:1) aspect ratio, moves the fingerprint sensor to the rear of the phone, and changes up the camera configuration a bit. Otherwise, it offers the same basic specs and performance of the older OnePlus 5. The 5 has been available in hit-or-miss fashion over the last month, but is now officially discontinued by OnePlus. The 5T starts at $499 for the 6 GB / 64 GB model.
Hands On with the OnePlus 5T
OnePlus is the latest smartphone maker to adopt the 18:9 aspect ratio display. The OnePlus 5T, an update to the OnePlus 5, increases the screen size while also slimming down the bezels. It carries over most of its predecessor's top specs, including the Snapdragon 835 processor and twin camera array. The result is a more appealing device. Here are our first impressions.
OnePlus 5T Stretches the Screen to 6 Inches with 2:1 Aspect Ratio
OnePlus today announced the OnePlus 5T, an update to its 2017 flagship handset that adopts the 2:1 aspect ratio for the display. The new OLED screen measures 6 inches from corner to corner and includes 2,160 by 1,080 pixels. In order to accommodate the new display, OnePlus relocated the fingerprint reader to the rear of the phone. The device adds a facial recognition tool for security. OnePlus says it takes only 0.4 seconds to recognize the owner’s face and unlock. Other than these changes, the 5T is similar in terms of design and specifications to the OnePlus 5 from earlier this year. The 5T boasts a metal unibody design with a slim and rounded profile. The phone carries over the alert slider, USB-C port, 3.5mm headphone jack, and dual-camera array from the OnePlus 5. The camera configuration is changed a bit. The main camera is the same 16-megapixel sensor as the 5, and the secondary relies on a 20-megapixel sensor. Rather than include a telephoto lens, the secondary camera adopts better low-light technology. Both lenses share the same focal length and f/1.7 aperture. The 5T is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 processor and the handset comes in two memory configurations: 6 GB of RAM with 64 GB of storage, and 8 GB of RAM with 128 GB of storage. Other specs include a 3,300mAh battery with Dash Charge, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, GPS, WiFi, and Cat 12 LTE with 3x carrier aggregation and support for 34 worldwide LTE bands. The phone runs Android 7 Nougat with the latest build of OnePlus' OxygenOS UI on top. OnePlus said the 5T will have access to Android 8 Oreo as a beta in December. The phone goes on sale November 21 for $499.
