I feel that all the Treo 750 has over the BlackJack is WM5 Pocket PC and a touchscreen. Does that outweigh the slim form factor (and current availability) of the BlackJack?
What do you guys think? I need some advice with this one...
...
And the BlackJack has bluetooth 2.0, but not the Treo...

if youre on a budget and dont ever plan on editing word/excel/pdf files then go with the blackjack. smartphone os cant do those things, only with a ppc can you get that. the treo is gonna be a beast and would much rather have that. but all depends on what you want. i have ordered a 680 while waiting for a 750 release just because you can edit files with treo with docs to go but you will never get that function with the blackjack. people say the treo 680 is entry level phone but personally the bj and all other "smartphones" dont even compare to ppc's or treos.
...
Is the only difference between wm5 ppc and smartphone office/pdf editing capabilities? Are there any other OS changes (like interface or function)?
...
yes the interface is a little different than ppc. AS for apps and things of that nature, there are for more out there for ppc and i find ppc to be more customizable than smartphone edition. smartphone is not touch screen and ppc is. to me, smartphone is a child's version of windows. you're paying the money for wm5 but not getting it pretty much with smartphones.

I am not as concerned about the price difference, but I do want to use the browser.
Will the Treo browsing experience be any different than that of the BJ?
Also, from what I understand the "proper" data plan is the higher cost PDA plan, is that true?
The first thing I care about is call quality...any thoughts between the two phones?
...
The "proper" data plan for the treo 750 and bj is the pda connect plan but the mediaworks plan works perfectly and for less.
The treo uses blazer browser and the bj uses Pocket IE. PIE is an ok browser but had some trouble displaying wide pages correctly. I played with the 680 again in stores today and spent about 20 minutes surfing and the blazer browser worked great. Major step up from the 650. As for call quality, the volume on the 680 has been improved and I think its loud enough to hear in a crowded area.

let me edit that....i was thinking about the treo 680. The 750 uses the same browswer as the bj so viewing should be the same....sorry bout that.

I have both the Treo 750v and the Blackjack. The 750 has a slightly better feel in the hand as compared to the blackjack. They could have done a better job with both phones but it seems that the people who make these phones just cannot figure it out. The Treo 750 eats battery like nobodies business and in fact without using the phone it went from an overnight 100% charge to like 50% in less than 3/4 a day. It would suck if you were actually using the phone. I made like one 10m call and the thing lost like 10% battery. It was crazy. The keyboard on the 750 is much nicer than the BJ and the navigation on the 750 is much better...excluding the lack of the side wheel which is awesome on the BJ. The people at Samsung thought it would be ...

Thanks for the info! I've read that the BJs battery is terrible too; is the Treo's worse??
Also, what are your thoughts on the difference between the two operating systems and the lack of the touchscreen on the BJ?
Lastly, have you tried listening to music with a bluetooth stereo headset on either device? Is that even possible with the Treo?
...
Alex,
The BJ's battery seems alright but today is the first full day of use. I have noticed that battery life pretty much sucks with all windows mobile devices. I had the KJAM/8125/QTEK9100 and Moto MPX before and none of them were good on battery life in comparison to a palm device. I actually sold the Treo today based solely on the fact that the battery was so bad. When I said 3/4 a day I was being generous and that was with zero use and all alerts turned off, only checking e-mail once an hour.
Operating Systems: Personally I am a doctor so I need to use the device all the time for drug references (etc) that pretty much only work on Pocket PC so I would say that I prefer the Pocket PC version. However, if this was not the case, ...

Yes, I have an important question; how does the call quality compare? I have a BJ and I can't get a definate answer on whether or not it's defective. It has poor call quality, as have of the people I asked confirmed, but the other half say it's just the phone. I guess I'd just have to have someone else's BJ to compare it to, but compared to my 700p it's horrible, and I can barely use it with the speaker phone. If the quality was good, then I'd keep it, but right now I'm considering getting a 750. So have you noticed any differences in the call quality. BTW, specifically, the quality is like vibrated/muffled I guess, but not crisp and clear. It's loud and I get great reception, but the quality is like the date rate(if that term applie...

Hi Paul ...
I have a blackjack II and just had a treo. Was wondering... have you converted any of your treo data to your blackjack II. If so, how did you move it to your blackjack?
Many thanks,

Just beam the files from one phone to another.
FYI: for those that don't know, most PPC programs won't work on the Smartphone version, and vice versa. Pictures, videos and music will work, though.
...
Speaking of call quality - how does the 750 call quality compare with that of the Blackjack? I'm trying out the Blackjack right now for 30 days, and find the call quality to be very good. Wondering if the 750 is as good, worse, or better.
thnx
...
really? i have a bj too but mine sounds horrible. its loud but not crisp. ould you say mine's defective? the difference in call quality between my bj and my treo 700p is like a 128kbps mp3 and a 265kpbs mp3.
...
Here's a difference: I wasn't able to get google maps talking to a bluetooth gps on Samsung Blackjack because it didn't have a GPS widget and I wasn't willing to hack the registry. Getting it to work on a pocket-pc based phone is straightforward.
...
The blackjack has terrible battery life in places where it has 3g service. Does anybody know if the treo has similar problems?
...
well 3G is gonna wear your batter down quicker than non 3G devices. That's just part of the give and take with technology. They both have the same battery, 1200 MaH so they should be very similar in battery life.
...
The Treo 750 Battery life sucks worse than the Blackjack. I have had both phones. I bought the unlocked 750 and Blackjack and tested both on Cingular. Without even using the 750 the battery dropped below 50% in about 3/4 a day without use except every hour e-mail checks. Both have terrible battery life but I would say the 750 is worse and at least the BJ comes with an extra battery to keep charged all the time. The Treo 750 would likely be the better phone but the batter is so terrible that you really cannot use it like you would unless you have the ability to charge every day and during the day. Good luck and I sold the Treo 750 because of the battery.

On a different note, does anyone know if the Palm 750 will charge off the USB cable when sync'd or tethered to a notebook?
...
no, it doesn't charge on the pc since it is not a usb connector but a proprietary connector.
...
As a Cingular warrant csr, I've only had one call about the 750, while I've had several on the Blackjack.
...
my main support for the blackjack is its size (quite portable) and as my name says, i can get it for free without hassle... the treo 750 is quite buggy and i'm not too thrilled with the palms...

Dude, go with Treo 750!
Full Version of Windows Mobile 5, very nice feel of it when it is in your hands, size? Forget about the size! It is nice size, just prfect, once you ge it- wont regret it!!!
I owned this Treo 750 for a week now!! Amazing!!
...
Exactly! Size doesn't matter. It's about performance.
...
Hahaha, A BlackJack user calling a Palm 750 buggy, I'm gonna have a friggin stroke laughing so hard.
While I admit niether are perfect, the 750 is a better phone.
...
Certainly! Especially if you get one with Windows Mobile 6 on it.
