Mobile Email question
BryanFeb 25, 2007, 8:41 AM
I noticed that the Mobile Email allows me to check my e-mail if it's set up through either MSN, AOL or Yahoo. I have my e-mail account with BellSouth (now ATT). I would think that since I'm buying the phone from Cingular, that BellSouth would have been automatically one on the list of e-mail providers that we could use the phone to check our e-mail with using Mobile Email. Does anyone know if ATT e-mail will be added to the list? Any comments would be appreciated! 🙂

That's interesting, because when I look at what's on my V3xx (click the left navigation button), there are 6 options, the 3 you mentioned, plus AIM, AT&T Yahoo, and BellSouth. I don't use any of them, but have managed to set up my mac.com email through MediaNet (go to Mail & Messaging, then Add Email Account). I then bookmarked my inbox, so I could easily check for new mail. Not truly a full pop3 set-up though, anything I send will have your (phone number)@mycingular as the return address.
I do have a HotMail account, which is supposed to be supported on this phone, but it doesn't seem to remember and everytime I use it I need to set it up all over again. Not sure what the issue is there, maybe someone can tell about similar experie...

Thanks Idersch for your reply. I haven't purchased the V3xx yet, so I don't have the phone to actually see what e-mail options are available. I was in a Cingular store yesterday and picked up one of their Media Bundle Package brochures and I noticed that BellSouth wasn't listed as one of the options for Mobile e-mail. That's why I asked the question. I've read all the posts on the V3xx and it looks like a great phone. Thanks again for your reply!

As Idersch mentioned, Bellsouth is included in the list of service providers available to set up with mobile email. I use Yahoo and I am also able to add it to the MEdia Net home page, BUT the big issue for me with that is the number of bytes used (of my little $9.99/month package) is too high when using MEdia Net to access my mail. When I use the Mobile email the bytes used are significantly lower. However, those with the V3xx may have noticed that Cingular had Motorola disable the Byte Usage Summary that used to appear each time you disconnected. Hacking-in to 0032_0001 will allow you to re-enable it, but that's not as easy on this model as on previous Motos.

Where can I find instructions on "hacking into 0032_0001" for this phone? (Or hacking into in general for that matter?)
