Poor Man's Music Essentials Kit
I'm looking for a cheaper way to replicate the Music Essentials Kit that Verizon charges an arm and a leg for. I already have normal stereo headphones; I just need an adapter. I don't need a software disc if it's free to download from VZW.
Does anyone know what the model number and whatnot for the USB cable is that comes with the kit? All of the ones I see on ebay claim to act as phone chargers as well. I was under the impression that the "official" one was just a data sync cable, not a charger, too. I just want to make sure I don't screw up my phone trying to sync my music library.

Most newer MEK's come with the ability to charge as well... so the one you are looking at will probably be fine.

my usb data cable says ddc-539400. the music essential kit was only $20 for me, not bad for headphones with the button to stop music and take call, usb cable, vcast music manager disc, and 2mb memory card.

The USB data cables that are sold on ebay for mere pennies are fine and usually come with bonus car charger cable (not the same cable). The cables for vx8600, vx8700 and vx8550 are all the same so get whatever is least expensive.
That being said: if you have a microSD card you do not need anything else to play mp3 or wma music files on your phone! Not even a data cable!
Turn your phone off > insert microSD card > turn phone on > remove card > insert card into your computer and drag mp3 or wma into the folder called "My music". Put it back into your phone and play music like a maniac.
Also, on Ebay, you can get very cheap 2.5 to 3.5 headphone adapters for using regular headphones.
