BlackBerry Storm 9530
Storm vs iPhone

At the heart of every Blackberry is a set of powerful business tools to get what the professional needs done...and now they have some cool multimedia abilities to play with after work!
At the heart of every Apple is lot of cool multimedia abilities and an easy to use fun phone (ipod, apps store, phone)
I love both products. If I had AT&T as a carrier I probably would have had an iphone for the last couple of years.

On the flipside the Storm has been built to go after that iPhone market. The Storm can do everything the iPhone can do and more while the iPhone does some things better. Do you think BlackBerry w/ the Storm maight have a better platform? Does the Storm have better hardware than the iPhone? This is their first touch screen phone out of the box. It has it flaws it needs it updates but when they release their next device I wonder how both will stack up. Maybe BB is trying to do too much. Thoughts anyone?
However, if you do just have a business that requires e-mail and web access I actually prefer the iPhone because of it's superior html e-mail abilities and far superior web browsing.

If you need a phone for business the iPhone is not the phone you want...unless your business just requires you to be able to send and receive e-mail and browse the web. If it requires document editing and creation the iPhone is not even an option. It just does not fit the bill...period...no discussion needed.

As crazy as it sounds the email looks much better to me on the iPhone than it does on the storm.. I currently own both (I know call me spoiled) and I'm trying to decide between the 2. I will say t...

As for HTML e-mail, you are exaggerating it's effectiveness. Any BB user recognizes the "cannot display image" message you often get from HTML e-mail.
Once I click on Get Images it brings up abox letting me know downloading images expose my address and ask me if I want to continue. I click yes and in seconds I'm good. Some Newsletters it might say: If you are unable to see the message below click view. The nI get the entire page. However, I am fine 9 out of 10. I've sent emails w/ architectural renderings cut and pasted. B/c I'm on BES all my emails show up. I can go to the email I sent and I see the entire email w/ pic and my signature.
I say best of both worlds b/c you can do everything that the iPhone can do. iPhone might be slightly better in some features but by far not a big trade in from all the advantages t...

The Storm is not the "best of both worlds" between a BB and an iPhone. It is a "compromise" between the two.
Also, on the messaging side I would have to give Storm the edge over the iPhone b/c we have to take into account pics text messaging which is something the iPhone can't do.
I don't believe in a corporate environment you need HTML e-mail or picture text but for the sake of our discussion I would say that it must be included when deciding which is a better...

Plus, MMS is a dying technology as almost all phones are e-mail capable now. The market studies I have read show the technology lost profitability a couple years ago and will not be around too much longer. It will not be missed though since phones are evolving beyond the need for it.
Most phones are e-mail capable these days. if someone fails to set that up for themselves then they are choosing to be left out. Pic messaging is going away eventually. It is just not profitable for the carriers. Why would anyone want to pay extra for pic messages when e-mail will soon be free access on most carriers. In fact, I saw a report that says that all carriers will be offering free e-mail as soon as 2010 in some cases.
BTW, there are a lot of people missing out and that will continue for sometime. There are also many individuals who are not as economically sound as you are which is not too hard to understand. I know few friends that aren't in the same situation or have put other responsibilities over purchasing a computer so they don’t have email accounts set up. There are many families in this sit...

granted, you can send a message from an email to, for example, 505-555-5555@czwpix.com (different for all carriers) and have the message come through as a mms message.
MMS as a whole IS going away. Not a single carrier has made a profit off of it for a few years now. All it is doing is eating up their bandwidth and costing them money. That is why they are moving to free e-mail service.
Also, we are talking about today. I would rather have the ability to text pics rather than not. Point blank. If you don't care about having the ability to text pics then that's your loss...I will take the benefit of that feature. To me that is one disadvantage of the phone and was a disadvantage to the 8830 I had before. Some of my friends could not email me the pics.
If someone emails you a pic you have to wait either until your phone retrieves its emails (for BB its every 20 unless you have a BES) or manually check the device yourself. There is a wait.
like playboy said, we are mixing up email/ non email phones. and im glad he pointed that out. untill everyone has email phones, mms is still great. and non email phones can still email pics, and email phones can still send pics to non email phones.
but mms still works better to me and many others.
if your bb takes 20 mins for an email update the phone/prl/software, it shouldnt take nearly that time
SMS is just plain text
MMS is embedded picture text
I hear what PlayBoy is saying and have heard it before on the forum but I don't foresee them stopping this technology anytime soon....

also, at a bb training, the rep told us that bb's change how they check, for example
by default, the bb checks every 15-20 mins
if you are holding a convo in emails, and u recieve an email from the same person within the 15 mins, it goes down to 7.5 mins.
if u recieve an email from the same person in the 7.5 mins, it goes down to 3.25 and so on.
maybe its the vzw network, idk, but my emails come through almost instant.
