Unlike my BlackBerry Pearl with OS 4.5.0.77, does the Storm with the newer OS update time zones automatically when you travel from one time zone to another?

If you set it to Network time I would assume it would

Yeah, you'd think so ... but no. It's a really common complaint amongst BlackBerry users. For a business-centric line of smartphones, lack of a basic feature that's present in even the most basic of cell phones is completely inexcusable, IMHO. 😡

Interesting. There is an explanation for why this is on another website. Not sure if I agree with RIMs reasoning or not:

Ex given:
The theory is this--If you travel alot, and say you live in NYC, in Eastern. You set a meeting for next week in Chicago (Central). When you set the meeting appointment, you ALSO set the timezone for that appointment. So if the meeting is at 3:00 p.m., Central, you set it for 3:00 p.m., Central. If you set it for 3:00 p.m. Eastern, then traveled to Chicago and your phone AUTOmatically updated the timezone, it would be off an hour and get confusing.

Yeah, I've seen that explanation many times over, too, but modern Windows Mobile smartphones update on their own and do so without a problem. I understand the rationale behind this argument, but I still think it should be an option for those of us who would like the phone to function this way. 😕

What kills me is that if you go into Options then Date/Time, you can actually see the BlackBerry time as well as the network time, completely independent of the time zone setting on the device. Then from that screen, if you hit LOLO, a hidden section is revealed that shows exactly what date/time information (network UTC time and time zone offset) that the device is receiving from the tower, revealing that the BlackBerry is perfectly...

Yea, a lot of people aren't happy about that issue from what I was reading.

I know that Blackberry's are capable of seeing local time from cell phone towers but it appears that if this option were available that it might not be consistent everywhere.

Quote from the link:

"I found the 3G standards online this morning. Now we know "Time" and "Timezone" are Optional, so individual networks can implement each feature - or not. IMO this more or less kills it for current use by RIM because unpredictable network implementation would cause more chaos than it would resolve. The problems for smooth programming with dual mode CDMA/GSM "wor...
