Getting the Storm TODAY! What can I expect with bugs that persist??

I currently own the 8830 and love it. I've been waiting to get the Storm to allow a few updates and simply because I've been so happy with my current BB.

Basically, I've been reading these forums and doing other research and I believe that I will love the Storm, in fact I think it will become my favorite phone ever.

I'm just curious as to what problems still persist, i.e. freezing, screen being non-responsive, etc.? And how often these problems occur after the lates update?

I consider myself tech savvy and I know there will be an adjustment period. Also, I love the QWERTY style keyboard, so have people found that they get used to using the qwerty or is it easier to adjust to the suretype style?

Thanks in advance for all responses...

Some bugs appear to be the same across the board with each software update, but I have noticed that not all owners are experiencing all the exact same problems. Some have few issues while others are dealing with constant crashes, battery pulls, and lags.

The reason?
Probably as simple as every owners phone is configured a little different. Some have 3rd party apps, some have been striped of games and apps that they don't need, etc. and yes, some could be bad phones.

What I am getting now with .86 (leaked software)
-media card inserted bug in the beginning. Has gone away I think.
- Verizon Splash "screen of death" upon being woken up sometimes forcing a battery pull
-problems going into bedside mode sometimes when I put it on the ...

i also run .86 (leaked, non official).

i have saw the media card error only 2 times, and dont use bedside mode. (maybe i would, but dont know what it is.) overall i love the phone, and the bugs it has to me are minimal.

all in all, if you like technology, the storm is great. my only gripe with the phone is that it doesnt have wifi (not big to all, but at my house it would be nice) but canada is said to get a wifi 9520 version later this year.

good luck 🙂

I wouldn't necessarily expect problems. For instance, I have had VERY few issues. In the (almost) month that I've had it, I have had to do a handful of battery pulls, and the phone spontaneously rebooted itself ONCE. I'm running .75.

I almost always use the QWERTY keyboard.

I got used to the phone quickly, and I think it definitely helped that I configured the keyboard settings to my liking.

I had my storm for a little over a month now. Once the screen froze after
I downloaded a bunch of music. 30 songs. And once the phone refused to ring. Both times
I had to remove the battery. Took a while for it to reboot. But it fixed it. And
Only happened twice in five- six weeks. Jo

I found even thought I am a qwerty keyboard person. The keys are larger in suretype mode.
So I used suretype for a bit and what do you know, it works, and I like it.
And its easier to "1 hand" the phone when you use the suretype anyway. The trick is to just keep typing. It will figure out what your typing.

As for the occasional reboots of the phone.
Any smartphone requires you to pull the battery once in a while, I dont know anyone with a smart phone, whether Windows Mobile or Blackberry that has to pull their battery at least once every 1 or 2 weeks.
Sometimes more often if you have a buggy firmware revision.

I mistyped.
" I dont know anyone that hasnt had to pull their battery at least 1 time in a 1 or 2 week period"

before the flames start pouring in.

I have to say, I'm not flaming, but I have had at least four different PDAs (three HTCs and a blackberry) and I can count on one hand the number of times I've done a battery pull. Having to pull a battery once a week is ridiculous, and I doubt I'd keep a phone that required that.

..I power my phone off and on once every few weeks, but I've never had the problems you're describing. I may just have been lucky.

Having come from a Motorola Q, then a Q9M.
Those 2 phones are so buggy, rebooting is expected.
I hope to see a difference with a Storm when I get one.
