Nice Improvements Over the First One, But ....
Still no front camera to allow for future video calling and no GSM to allow it to work overseas.
If this Droid had those features, I wouldn't think twice. Verizon is still playing catch up baseball to the iPhone.

I don't know what your experience with world roaming is but my Tour, World phone with GSM and CDMA, worked on CDMA throughout Asia. Never once did it roam onto GSM and it worked quite well everywhere...

WCDMA 2100. Unlike the dual mode CDMA Droid X. The reason your Tour never went into CDMA mode while you were on travel overseas is because you have a 3G phone. In the places where GSM only exists, the gsm networks also have WCDMA capability. Your phone was working in WCDMA. A dual mode CDMA phone like the DROID X will not work in most countries PERIOD because GSM networks are the most prominent and cheapest to run. I too travel a ton, I am currently in Taiwan writing this message where CDMA networks DO NOT exist at all but phones with 3G WCDMA will. Actually, Asia uses CDMA quite bluntly. WCDMA is 3G GSM, and still requires your SIM card to work. Besides, most quad banders are not WCDMA and they don't have a problem either.
When Blackberry gets their slideways touch screen phone with BBOS6, we may actually have a comparable phone to the Android storm ... or even... iPhone.

You Iphone guys are all the same. Once you see phones that make the Iphone look like old news you get all defensive. "nothing compares to the Iphone" I beg to differ. I have the HTC Incredible and it can do everything if not more than my wife's Iphone. So what if it cant go overseas. 99% of people don't need that anyway. If you do go buy a prepaid. That one reason doesn't mean it the Verizon phones don't compete. Oh and I can use my phone at my house where my wife has to go outside so even if the Iphone really works overseas, does it really?? your still on AT&T.

actually, last time I went to Taiwan and Japan, I had no problems using my Verizon CDMA smart phone.
I was able to make and receive calls, send/receive text messages etc (abit at a much higher rate due to roaming)
I did not try wireless data for fear of what my bill would be like.
I did end up with a $400 roaming bill for the phone calls/txt messages while in Taiwan and Japan.
So there is CDMA coverage at least in Taiwan and Japan. I don't know about other asian countries.

Please I have used the moto Droid next to the iPhone 3g. Both have plus and minus over each other but the Droid is certainly comparable. In fact I liked it better. How many times do you travel a year...most people say I wish this phone or that was global and they never go anywhere. Lame

-Video calling has been standard overseas for well over a decade, and people still barely use it. I think you're overestimating how important this feature is. It would be nice to have, but it's not that big of a deal.

Another option is to sign up for google voice, make that your primary number, and then when you are overseas, have it ring through a prepaid cell on that carrier and bing! you have international calls.
If you're traveling that much anyway, you're doing it for work, so you have a work phone. If you're doing it for pleasure, you can afford dropping 550 on an unlocked N1 and...

Actually Fring now has an app that android phones can use if your phone has the FFC(EVO) and you dont have to use wifi.

I still see it as a novelty that isn't going to become "the new way to call". Heck, texting has become way more popular than voice calls for a reason. It's quick, convenient, and you don't have to hold a two-way conversation if you don't want to. If someone doesn't want to actually speak on the phone, they sure as heck aren't going to want to be on camera also. I'm not saying it'll never get used. I'm sure it'll have it's uses, but it's not going to be the next great thing. Let's keep in mind what started this conversation. The original poster says the Droid X is lacking because it doesn't have this feature. My point is that by the time the networks are up to the task of making it truly useful, we'll all be on to the next phone anyways...
