Darn, not at all impressed...

I was waiting for this phone with high hopes but after getting to play with it today I am very disappointed. The screen looks good but not good enough to make up for the low quality construction. Feels like a cheap plastic toy. The speakerphone and tri band would be nice but since I would seldom use them it would not make up for the every day feeling of the phone being cheaply made. Plus, the way the icons are on the keypad seem like they would quickly wear off with even the most limited use.

From my experience metal may seem more sturdy, but actually it is not impact resistant. Many "metal" phones easily become scratched and/or dented when dropped. Most phones are now constructed of a high impact, lightweight polymer, which are supposed to stand up to normal abuse. Yes, there are some poorly constructed "plastic" phones out there, but I am confident that since this phone is actually built by Toshiba (unlike the 8900) it is more sturdy. If you are able, compare the feel of the 9900 vs. the 8900, you'll notice a big difference in the construction. As for the keypad, yes the numbers/icons seem painted on, but they aren't; my old Kyocera-2235 has the same keypad style. The icons and numbers are simply transluscent to allow light ...

Hi y'all,

I'd first like to thank each of you for taking the time to provide such valuable feedback on this phone- it is very helpful and much appreciated. 😁 It's unfortunate that Verizon is known for having the worst phones in the industry when compared to other carriers. With that said, whenever an even mediocre phone is put out by Verizon everyone flocks to it, because we're all so desperate to get a decent phone that looks as good as the service is!

After reading all of the positive reviews posted on here I decided to trek out to my local Verizon Wireless store in Secaucus, NJ today to check it out for myself. Luckily the store wasn't very crowded, so I spent about 20 mins playing around with the phone. Here are my thoughts:

Sorry, but I can't agree with you when you complain that "this is a large, bulky phone" but also say "the screen is huge". It would seem to be an impossibility to have a large screen in a body as small as you desire.

Yes, the 9900 is slightly larger than the petite Motorola v60i that I just retired. I'll accept the tradeoff in a slight body size increase for that great large color screen in my new 9900.

By the way, you can easily change the External LCD's brightness, contrast and amount of time its backlight is on.

You don't have to agree with me- you're entitled to your opinion 😁 It all comes down to what each person values. I personally would prefer a smaller/thinner phone with a smaller screen, like the upcoming Motorola v265 or v810 for example. I don't have a need for such a large screen- in fact I find that the larger the screen is the more uncomfortable it is on the ear. As long as the screen is clear and I can clearly read text messages, my caller idea, ,and the time, I'm good to go 🙂
I also personally don't value having a camera on a phone...if it has it, great, but not something I personally look for, especially not if it makes the phone larger. That's why I have a digital camera, and I don't have the need to incorporate t...

FYI, this comparison shows the v265 is just about the same size as the 9900 give or take a tenth of an inch or so. Hardly significant.

Dimensions

9900
3.66" x 1.89" x 0.95"
(93mm x 48mm x 24mm)

v265
3.60" x 1.80" x 0.90"
(91mm x 46mm x 23mm)

The 810 is a different story but is not coming out for VZW.
