CDM9900 Tip#2: How to remove "Verizon Wireless" on CDM9900
I was playing around with the phone's setup menu (289#1) and
was able to get this to work:
1) Turn phone On.
2) Within a few seconds type: 289, press left soft key, #, 1
3) "NAM 1 Setting?" Choose Yes
4) Scroll down to "ERI Setting?" Choose Yes.
5) Where it says "ERI Change Enable", type in 0, scroll down a few times to make sure the 0 stays there.
6) Press the left directional key once and scroll down 5 times to "General Settings". Choose Yes.
7) Go to "Idle Banner Settings". Choose Yes.
😎 Type in anything you want...or LEAVE BLANK. Click OK.
9) Scroll down 10 times and get back to "NAM 1 Setting?" Press the Green Vad "send" k...

No problem. The free Internet hack works as well. Just be careful not to select "reset WAP settings" in the hidden menu. A few people did that and had to have their phone replaced. Generally, the discussions on HowardForums go far deeper into the world of hidden features and work-arounds.

I spoke to a Verizon rep last night discussing the problem with removing the mobile IM from the phone. Being there is a bug, it cannot be removed. For those of you who don't plan on ever removing it just keep in mind that you will NOT be able to upgrade to a new version of mobile IM either. The only option to upgrade and remove is in settings and manage aps. Being mobile IM does not display in manage aps folder, it is permanently installed on the phone. I know mobile IM will will have more bugs it's just a matter of time until they upgrade to new version but the way it is now, you can't do anything with it and your stuck with the version on the phone. I am bringing my phone back today as per tech support. They told me they might be able to ...

Did you return the phone to Verizon Yet? What did they say?
...
Crap... well keep us posted on what we have to do...
Thanks

Your going to have to exchange your 9900 for a new one. The tech agent at Verizon told me that they will have to work on a software version upgrade for the 9900 to resolve this issue? It's just easier to exchange it who knows if and when they will be making a patch for this. Being I was able to delete other GIN applications, I am assuming that it's just a software fix that is needed for the mobile IM not the 9900.
...
Yes, I did I got a brand new 9900. But I am not downloading mobile IM until Verizon gets their act together. I am going to call the GIN tech support later to see if they are made aware of this situation.
...
CRAP!! I downloaded mobile IM last nite!! 👿 If I exchange the phone will they be able to transfer the pix I have to the new phone??? At 25 cents per pix sent I really don't want to do it myself!!!
...
😁 Yep! Powered down and powered back up - went to GIN settings and it was listed in the apps!!! I removed it and now my memory used is back to only 15%! 😁
...
That doesnt work for me..........

Nope, didn't work. You sure you only powered down, and then back up again? You didn't remove the battery or did something else?
...
The only thing I did was remove the other apps before powering down. Dunno if that had an effect or not.
...
Probably not cause I removed other apps too. You should keep your 9900 for a very long time or maybe just sell it on E-bay for $1,000,000 and advertise it as the ONLY working model of it's kind that removed an un-removable ap. 😁 Even Houdini couldn't figure this one out! 🤣
...
ROFL! Ok, I confess... I practice voodoo. I made a doll in the likeness of my phone and put pins in it... THEN I tried to remove mobile IM and it worked. My secret is out!! ARGH! lol!
...
I installed it on both of my 9900's... i'll try messing around with it tonight.
...
If all else fails Compubuff can sell you one of his VooDoo dolls and your problem should be solved 🤣
...
Well, maybe you should do a good deed for the day and go work some of your amazing voodoo on those people next door at the V710 forum as they are practically pulling their hair out over all the problems the phone is causing them.. LOL
...
Umm... the V710 is cursed! I won't come within 10 feet of it! 😉
...
the Boston Redsocks have the curse of the bambino and now, the v710 folks have the curse of the v710 lmao!
...
Compubuff got lucky. Good job. But it did not work for me either. I tried powering on and off. I simply exchanged my phone and will wait to download the mobile IM again until Verizon looks across the horizon for some answers how to fix this mess!

Guys don't give up. Your going to love your phone even more after this. Power off then power back on wait till your wallpaper comes up within 10 seconds enter 289, left soft key, # and 1. Now just follow the the directions posted by Vitalysk and your good to go. And get this not only does it get rid of the Verizon Logo it also does't show up in the front screen when your getting a call. WHAT A BONUS! good luck.

No can do, you will lose everything. They cannot transfer pics. It's upsetting but nothing you can do.
...
I called VZ GIN tech support and they said I'd have to bring it in to the store. He said they couldnt remove it over the air and that "its free so just leave it on there anyway".
I'm concerned for updates to MobileIM so I might have to bring the phones in to get new ones. I hope they can xfer the pictures and all that to a new one?
...
FREE JUST LEAVE IT ON THERE ANYWAY????????Being free does not mean you have to leave it there. Who the heck do these rep's think they are? Real nice. Well, I would bring the phones back and leave the defect there with them
...
i went to the vz store and they wanted me to leave the phone for a day!
...
Well, I found out that there is a software fix from Audiovox in the works to correct this problem. Apparently, there are more GIN applications that aren't able to be deleted and the phone's software isn't recognizing certain GIN applications and putting them into the manage apps folder. Well, this is not that big of a deal once AV comes out with the update all should be just fine
...
COMPUBUFF keep this up and I'll let your little secret out that you swore me to secrecy on! LMAO!
...
How would we get this update and when would we know that its released?
...
By sending your phone to me with a check for $300 made out to "the greatest guitar guy" haha j/k You have to bring your phone to a VErizon store an call the store or *611 from your cell phone and ask tech support if it has been released yet. 😁
...
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!! NOOOOOOO!!!!! lol
...
I was the one that found out how to do this and posted it to www.howardforums.com last week. However, his site has been having problems thr last 3 days, but I will post the direct link to my post once his site gets back up.
...
😕 i am having alot of problems with removing the verizon banner, will someone please walk me through step by step? i would greatly appreciate it...i am pretty ERI inclined and cant seem to find t on my CDM9900...please help me out?
...
Joey, save yourself a headache cause I wouldn't bother trying to remove the banner, after all, it's really not that annoying. If you want to see an annoying banner take a look at the 8900. YIKES. I would be afraid to try and perform any hacks as I would be inclined to mess something up in the phone. Not saying anything bad against the people here who have in fact tried this and it worked for them. Just giving you my 2 cents worth. Do as you wish though.
...
guitarguy, just for my reference...what do you mean by hacking...nothing having to do with the internet right?
...
Hacking as in coughing really bad haha just kidding.
A hack is something that makes the phone do something it was not intended to do by the manufacture. Sure, some hacks can work but also, there is a risk of also messing up something to if your not careful. For instance, I used to own a PDA and once I tried a hack to reverse the backlight and the next thing I know is that I started getting alkl dots on my display. I immediately removed the hack and I was lucky not to have messed it up. I known people who messed up their PDA to a point rendering it useless. Hope this helps
...
does anyone know of any good ringtone sites, or anyother ways of getting a couple free tones from verizon?
...
Getting anything free from VERIZON???? HAHA your lucky they don't charge for the air you breath when frequenting their stores! Well, if you do a search on the Internet, you can get free midi files which can be used in the phone as a ring tone. That is what I do.
...
haha, so i would have to buy the USB set thingy in order to get the midi files correct?
...
Nope you can send them from any email account to yourphonenumber@VZWPIX.com you can also attach more than one midi at a time when you upload them from your email. This wilkl cost you 25 cents each time you send a ring tone (midi, pic) to you your phone so why only send one at a time? get your money's worth before Verizon comes up with an update to limit you one pic/midi per message. those money hungry bas*****
...
thanks guitarguy, but i dont have internet on my 9900, will it send it via text message?
...
You don't need internet on your phone
...
thank you, how do i shorten midi length?
...
If you remove this, you will screw yourself over. Your phone will NOT tell you if you are roaming or not correctly. 😲
...
Well... Mine is having no problems...
I set my ERI = 0... and now I have the Triangle indicator, blinking for "extended Network", solid for "Roaming", off for "Verizon Primary" network...
No problem...
...
ok. it's might have a potential for billing problems. just lookin' out for the rest of ya' 😉
