Removing Verizon Logo on outer screen

OK I followed the instruction to remove the verizon logo that shows up on the outer screen when I get a call. What I'm scared of: I've heard stories of how doing manual reprograms can screw things up. Are there any side effects of doing this? Or does it strictly affect the outer LCD during a received call, and nothing else?

I have been reading these posts about removing the Verizon logo. I am not sure what they are referring to -- whenever I receive a call, the outside screen simply says incoming and displays the phone number and contact info stored in my phone (if it's available). The inside screen shows a picture of a phone with a stream going towards it and below that there is the contact info and the phone number. Maybe this has something to do with where I live??? (Los Angeles) but I do nt get the Verizon logo on my screens on incoming calls. Let me know if this is what everyone is referring to with regard to the "Verizon logo" issue. Thanks.

It is called the ERI (Extended Roaming Indicator) and your outer display will not have the normal steady or blinking "Triangle" to indicate roaming status and instead will alternate the incoming caller ID info with the network connection info, either "Verizon Wireless" (the primary network, PCS) or "Extended Network", or "Roaming"...

The inner display also shows this info in what is refered to as the "Banner" line...

If you set ERI to 0 this system is turned off and the No/Blinking/Steady Triangle indicator will appear...

You can set the up to 12 characters for the "Banner" line and they will be displayed on the main Idle screen where "Verizon Wireless" was displayed... Mine says "Bill's Phone"

Playing with these areas of the man...

so this verizon flashing logo only comes up when you are roaming then??

you mention setting the ERI to 0--is this done by a hack or in the phone menus?

Also, did changing yours to "Bill's phone" require a hack or just the phone menues?

Thanks Bill.

I have a question about this. I removed it & I thought it was great to have it gone, but then the triangle was always flashing. Honestly, I think that's more annoying than the Verizon logo. I always thought the flashing triangle meant Extended Network but not Roaming, but when I checked my minutes they were all under Roam Calls. So my question is, does removing the Verizon logo somehow put the phone in a constantly roaming status?

Flashing Triangle is "Extended Network"... but because that is out of "Prime Network" the minutes are recorded by your phone in the "Roaming" minute counter, as there is no "Extended Network" minute counter...

You will not be paying roaming charges if the Triangle is flashing... But you will if it is NOT flashing...

This Extended Network indication is to let you know when you are not able to access the Verizon direct digital features, like picture messaging, get it now, web access, etc...

Q: so this verizon flashing logo only comes up when you are roaming then??

Answer: NO... Call your phone, don't answer it and watch the front display... it will change from caller ID info to network status info about every second or two...

Q: you mention setting the ERI to 0--is this done by a hack or in the phone menus?

Answer: This is accessed in the programming mode, NOT the user menus...

Q: Also, did changing yours to "Bill's phone" require a hack or just the phone menues?

Answer: This is accessed in the programming mode, NOT the user menus...

Thanks for the answers Bill. I did as you said and called my phone without answering it--no flashing of the network status on the outer LCD. Just the caller ID info the whole time until voicemail picked up. It is in digital mode (not sure if that makes a difference). Kind of weird--maybe has to do with where I am located.

OK...

Your phone is not properly programmed... or it is defective...

Try a *228 and then select option 1...

Then call you phone again... and see what happens...

I tried the reprogram with option 1. Still the same-no toggle of the verizon banner on the caller id on the outer screen and no verizon banner on the idle inner LCD (just the wallpaper (a photo I took), the clock I selected, the soft key information at the bottom, and the batery, signal, etc. at the top).-- I wouldn't really call the lack of verizon logos on my screens a defect--if it is, it is a desirable one!! But really though, the phone works great in every aspect, I can't imagine a defect that only relates to the Verizon banner not showing up.

Could it be that I am on an old local digital plan from like 6 years ago??

Anyone else not have the verizon logos on their phone out of the box??

From what I know the Verizon Logo is what you call the ehnhanced roaming indicator that tells you if you are in your home calling area or roaming. If you are on a local calling plan, then you will not have the enhanced roaming indicator unless you travel outside of your home calling area.
