hinge on 9900

I am probably just overanalyzing this, but I have had/used my 9900 for about 10 days now. I just noticed that the hinge on it has some play (probably less than 1mm) side to side when the phone is opened partially (about half way) all the way up until it clicks into place. Probably normal-if there was no play, the hinge would not be easy to open. Just checking to see if others have the same play in the clamshell hinge. Thanks to all who respond.

Gads................! I can't beleive this! Why is it that as soon as we get this phone we try to finds things wrong with it? The play in the hindge is normal because it clicks into it's stops anc certainly causes no problem.

This is a great phone and youi would be hard pressed to find another one as well built and with all the features.

It has very good reception, better than most, and has advanced feature. Remember, a cell phone is just that, a cell phone, and the phone feature is what is most important. The other "goodies" are nice to play with but making and receiving calls is what it is really used for.

Yes, phones in the future may be even better than this one if you wait long enough, but this is about best as you can get...

Take it easy-- I am not trying to find anything wrong with the phone-- I am coming from a StarTac 7868, so I am delighted with all the features and agree that the reception is great. I have no intention of returning it and I am using it making calls and enjoying it as you say. I was just making sure that the hinge on mine is not abnormally loose. I made no mention of using the phone other than to make and receive calls--I am not sure about you, but when I use my phone, the hinge comes into play when doing this. That is what my post addressed -- not ringtones as you mention. Maybe your ranting applies to all of the other posts, but I really don't think it applies to my inquiry.

Well put...

And mine has about the same "play" in the hinge... seems to be designed that way...

My 9900's hinge is fine...no squeak's. Might want to check with Verizon if it becomes a problem.

None here, and I have a case on it, which would add weight to it.

After a couple of days, I noticed that mine was squeaking a little bit. In the interim, my OEM case arrived and since I put it in the case, I haven't noticed it anymore. I did take it out to give it a listen (you are not the only one that's a little particular...) and found it had stopped.

I think the squeak is due to the hinge being so tight. To me, its a welcome change from my Motorola V60i whose flip, from day one, was as loose as an old garden gate. I miss the small size on the V60i, but the 9900 sounds better on both ends and has better reception. I think Motorola uses better materials than Audiovox/Toshiba, but Moto's workmanship is nothing to be proud of lately.

I'm out of contract and bought the 9900 for $149 with no contract...

I've been on Cingular in the NYC area (work phone) for quite a while now and its been just fine. Other than the nicer phone selection from the GSM side, I really don't notice a difference in the areas where I use the phone (That's all that concerns me.) Use what works for you.
