~ Found Software Bug ~

When you directly dial a number into the 9900 and press [SEND] it will show you the name of the dialed party if that party is in your contacts list... as it should be...

Now... at your idle screen dial a number that is in your contacts list, BUT make a "mistake" with the area code (use 555, because it does not really exist)...

The contact that has that phone number will be displayed when you press [SEND] and this will be placed in your recent call list...

So the software is matching only the "phone number" to the contact and not the "area code"...

This can be confusing if you are in an area with numerous area codes. If you make a mistake with which area code to use for someone, but use the correct number the phone indicates tha...

I don't see this on my phone. However, I always store full area code and number on all phonebook entries.

When you enter numbers in your phone book, do you always enter area code, or do you have numbers without area code?

If you don't always use area codes, what I believe is happening:

If your phone book entry does not have an area code, the phone cannot tell if the number you dialed with a "different" area code is a match or not, so it shows as a match on the number with an assumed match on any area code.

If this is true, I wouldn't consider it BUG, but actually a "Feature".

OK, Its a BUG. 😁

After further testing, I figured out:

1) The number in your phonebook must match the area code of your phone.

2) The number you are manually dialing is the same number, with a different area code.

Definitely a BUG!!

More details:

If the area code for a number in your phonebook does NOT match your phone, and you manually dial the number with a different area code (does not match your phone or phonebook entry), it will not match while making the call, but when you look in call history, it will show as a match. 😲

YUP...!!!

This is not good... as many of us now live in urban areas that may have a "local" area with three or more area codes...

If you make a mistake dialing it can be confusing when you connect to someone other than your expected contact, and you don't immediately think "Whoops wrong area code" because the name of your contact is being shown to you as the contact you just called...

Really no big deal, once you are aware of it and are conscious of what is going on...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And yes... I store all of my contacts with area code... You MUST do that, otherwise the area code of the cell site you are connecting through is used by the system, not the area code of your phone...
I.E. I'm in the 262 area code, and my...
Is there a way to report this problem to Audiovox and Verizon? Perhaps they could fix it.
Well... It is a software logic issue (I am a programmer)... and yes, it would be very easy to fix...
You just have to check that if a number is dialed with an area code it must match a contact entry completely... and if it is dialed without an area code it must match with the the current location area code + the contact number... otherwise, when in doubt do not show it as a contact list match... not really hard...
Send an email to Audiovox CS... if they get a bunch of them they may go ahead and have the programmers fix it...
My old LG did the same thing. Apparently it assumes your contacts are in your area code when it shows the name.
