I can't f*&%$N believe it. I went into a VZW store in Manhattan today and inquired about the 9900. I told them I knew I wasnt up for any upgrades and that I wanted to buy the 9900. She said ok, but they need to order it from the warehouse. She said no Verizon store has any left and that the 9900 phone is being discontinued. The only way to buy the phone is to order it through the store and have it shipped to either your home/store/work. I asked what happened and all she said was that they all sold out like hot cakes because it was such a good phone for so cheap and thats it...no recall, no problems at all. Whatever is left in the warehouse any any more sent there will be it.
I cant believe it, I have never seen a phone be out for on...

According to VZW, it was NOT discontinued. It is out of stock and will be back shortly. This was in an E mail in response to an inquiry made this week.

If this is truly the case, (jury still out) you have to realize by reading all the threads since March 2004, this phone was suppose to have been out wayyyyyyy back thennnnnnn. It was FCC approved (2) summers ago. The Verizon delays were never explained. So now you have a non-mega-pixel camera phone thats old before it hits the shelf, with mega-pixel camera phones right around the corner. (Reference the LG VX-8000) Everyone will have to wait and see regarding the 9900.
In spite of all this, it's still a damn good phone for the money, and I would not change my CDM-9900 decision for whats just over the horizon, or did I say Verizon? 😎

Yes I have read the posts, I have been a phonescoop follower for quite some time now. All I was doing in my original post was telling everyone what my experience was TODAY in a Verizon store. And yes I realize that the customer service reps at most companies like motorola and verizon dont know **** (no offense) but its because nobody tells them anything. They are told "what to say" and how to respond to specific questions asked by the public. In todays situation though, the rep told me as much as she knows. Because I follow phonescoop I was able to ask her more than average questions to see how she would respond. From her answers I could tell she was telling just as much as she could before saying too much. This was MY experience and al...

Hey, I didn't mean to offend you. I was speaking in general terms in regard to this topic, because it's something that has been discussed for a lengthy period of time. That's great that you've read all the posts regarding this issue. Now aren't I entitled to my opinion as well?

There's nothing wrong with your post, I was told the same thing...but guess what? I went back to the VZW store earlier this week...and the phone was back on the shelf 😎 so maybe it'll be the same for yours.

the real answer about this quetion given to me from the audiovox guys at our phone fair is that a specific number of phones was ordered to be manufacturerd and once thoes have been made and sold, thats it. Toshiba is no longer going to be making wireless phones (according to Audiovox) so they wont be continuing to make these after the initial contracted amount is manufactured. So I dont know if you consider this "discontinued" or not, but beacuse all of the ordered phones are not made in one giant batch, vzw will recieve shipments of a certain number of phones, sell them out, and then have to wait for the next shipment, untill all of the ordered phones by vzw have been manufactured and shipped. Because the phone is not continually being manu...

That's a shame that Toshiba won't be manufacturing phones any more. They seem to have about the best RF around.

If some of you are still looking at this phone and REALLY REALLY want it, you can probably get it through a few circuit citys.. I've been stuck with the 8910 for 2 weeks and since my 15 days ends monday, the verizon dude told my dad to swap the 8910 for the 9900 at circuit city and then activate it at vzw.. this might just be something around my area.. but a lot of circuit citys i've been to, have them... you dont have to activate them through circuit ciy (that means no nightmares, lol) just something you might want to try...

I know it's old news that Audiovox sold out their Cell Phone Business, so it's quite possible we will not see more Audiovox named Toshibia Phones.
But this is the first time someone has stated Toshibia is out of the business? I am skeptical of that, and hopeful that Verizon in the future might continue to provide this great line of phones via direct : TOSHIBIA

Just speculation on my part, but I wouldn't doubt that Toshiba is getting out. They've never been a significant player in cell phones, and from a business standpoint, it would probably make sense to get out. Its an extremely competiitve field and tough to garner any market share when you have only one or two (or no) phones out at a given time. Manufacturing them in Japan can't be cheap either.

Why all this talk about a "future" with a phone that is no longer manufactured. Is there anyone on this forum that is still using a phone that they bought more than two or three years ago?

What's the big deal... if you don't keep a phone more than a few years. You can't buy ANY brand of phone from Verizon (or any other carrier for that matter) that was sold more than a year or two ago. Maybe it's built-in obsolescence, or just fickle consumers. But the carriers always will try to sell the latest and greatest.

Sorry for the double post, but I'm tired of all of the hand-wringing about "discontinued" or "not discontinued". Just enjoy your great CDM-9900 if you already have one or please be patient while awaiting the next shipment if ...

I was told the 9900 was discontinued as well from one manager and a supply house and told that I shouldn't hold my breath for any more being sent. (I live in the NW) I went across town and they had a whole supply just shipped that day 😁 So they are still being made and shipped. Go somewhere else and talk to someone that knows what the hell they are talking about.

READ SOME OF THE OTHER THREADS ON THIS. YES, in a sense, the 9900 is discontinued. After existing orders are placed, the phones will not be made anymore. IT IS STILL BEING MADE. It is discontinued. The two can coexist, and in this case, they do.
