"floppy" 9900?

My 9900 has a lot of free play in the hinge when its partly open. When partly open, the top half of the phone isn't held in place by the hinge if you don't hold it. Its kind of "floppy". Once fully open it clicks into place and is secure. I don't think it was this way when I first purchased it. Is this normal? It doesn't hurt the functionality of the phone, but it feels kind of "cheap".

Mine is the same - a little play in the top half until it is all the way open, then nice and solidly held open. I never noticed it until I read your post. It feels fine to me the way it is.

When mine is part way open the top has about 1/2 inch of "floppy play" where there is no resistance to its movement... it was that way from the time I got it...

This does not bother me a bit... It is just the design of the hinge and the hinge "dampening" mechanism...

Previous versions (CDM-9500) have been the same way with a little play in the hinge in transit positions, but all solid on the completed open position. It's the design.

Great, thanks guys. I was hoping it was normal and not a defective hinge. This is a great phone and I wouldn't want to replace it with something else.

I have 2 of these phones...neither one has the problem you are describing...you may want to return to the store to have your phone checked.

Why do you have 2 9900's if you think they're so horrible in your review?

Because I own a tech research company that tests phones for consumer market research. I get 2 or 3 phones of each brand and give to my research engineers to investigate. 😁

It does appear to be the design of the phone. The display model at the store and two of them owned by store employees all were like this. You must have gotten a couple of anomolous phones as everyone else who responded has phones that do this. Thanks anyway for your response.
