OK so its discontinued, but that leads us to the future problem in regards to our phone insurance. If Toshiba is not going to work for audiovox anymore than does that mean the publics insurance claim will only last on how many phones are returned and refurbished? And once they run out they must give us a phone of equal or greater value...but Audiovox cant make any phone equal or greater without TOSHIBA. I had both the 8600 and the 8900 and they both sucked. Motorola has been very dissapointing for the last year or so with all their cheap plastic and shotty software. I think that LG will be the phone of choice along with Samsung.
thanx for listening

Why all this talk about a "future" with a phone that is no longer manufactured. Is there anyone on this forum that is still using a phone that they bought more than two or three years ago?

What's the big deal... if you don't keep a phone more than a few years. You can't buy ANY brand of phone from Verizon (or any other carrier for that matter) that was sold more than a year or two ago. Maybe it's built-in obsolescence, or just fickle consumers. But the carriers always will try to sell the latest and greatest.

Well, if phone manufacturers didn't update their lineups every year, they'd get slaughtered by the phone makers that do.

Technology is always improving (though not as fast as the ads would have you believe) so, for good or bad, 'tried and true' phones just don't stick around for that long.

Though I guess the moto v60 series is an exception, for good or ill.

Everyone is so much in love with this phone that they think this is the end of technology, and there will never be a phone better than this one. As mentioned by someone else here, none of us will have this phone 3 years from now...we will be using the latest cool phone at that time...life goes on!

I agree that all phones will eventually be discontinued, as new, better phones are introduced. Usually a phone is discontinued when it quits selling because it's technology, or lack of features makes it obsolete.

I think the reason there is so much discussion about the discontinuance of this phone is based on a couple of unique facts:

1) The time between release and discontinuance was so short. In my area it was in the stores less than a week.

2) At the time of it's release, and even at the time of it's discontinuance, many people believe it was the best combination of features for the price.

3) At the time of it's discontinuance, there is no "better phone" that would be the reason this one should be discontinued.

I thin...

What is special about this phone for me is the reception. This is the sixth phone I've owned and it by far has the best RF. The only one I've owned that came close was the old Star-Tac. Each one I've owned has gotten progressively worse since then until now. As more and more features are added, basic phone functionality seemes to be getting forgotten. I don't want it replaced with the "latest and greatest" or the new "cool phone", I want a phone that will make and receive calls just about anywhere - which the 9900 does. The camera and "bells and whistles" really don't mean much to me.
