I find this usually happens when I have the phone on "vibrate only"
The problem will start when I go to make a call. I hold the phone to my ear and don't hear any ringing. Then I look and the screen says it's "connected" - but there is nothing coming from the ear piece speaker. I've tested it during this state by calling my home phone and leaving a message (I can't hear anything - so I don't know when my answering machine is picking up - but I just let the phone stay "connected" for a few minutes and made some noise. Sure enough - when I got home there was a message on my home answering machine. It appears as if the microphone is working, the phone is connected, but the ear piece speaker is temporarily dead. I've had something similar but not exactly as you describe.

I've had one V710, since day one.

Maybe 3 times, all let's say in the last 4 to 6 months, there have been times I picked up the phone to make a call, it says connected but I never did hear any ringing in the earpiece. Yeah Mike - sounds like the exact same thing.
Mine has happened probably about 10 - 15 times over the past year... and on 2 different v710's

I'm pretty sure I was in vibrate mode when it happened- but it's possible it may have also happened once or twice in Vib+Ring.

Like you - I found the only solution was to power down the phone (although I did not need to remove the battery)

Wanna try something interesting? - Hit the Voice Command button next time it happens.....
Phone completely freezes 😲 (not to worry - you can still power it down and all is ok when you power back up) Looks like they missed something in testing.
