Charger wont stay in?!?!?!?!?

I have the V710 and recently my charger (both the wall and the car)fits in the slot very loosely, almost to the point of falling out, the only way i was able to get the phone to charge was to tie the wire aroung the antenna real tighly so it fits in the port. Now its not charging at all. Has anyone else encountered this problem, and if so, is there a way to fix it? or is it covered under Motorola's warranty from Verizon? Im gonna go check it out tomorrow at the store, but i just wanted to see what others on the board have experianced with this. Thanks in advance 🙂

i really really needed a phone, and my phone is out of warranty and im also part of the class action lawsuit, so i didnt have many options, it was either use an old verizon phone, until the law suite gets settled or pay $50 and get a new v710. I bought the 710 again, beasue it would have cost me $20 to activate an old phone, and then another $20 when i get the new one. These phones are junk, but i couldnt be without a cellphone due to work issues.

my warranty was still good, expires this november...the only option was for them to order me the same phone...My question is if that will void me out of the class action suit...since i wanted to keep my service but get a new phone...

Hi Guys.

Here's my story. I too am part of the class action lawsuit. Not sure if you realize it but, you dont have to have the original v710 you bought I beleive. My deal is this. I bought my original v710 well before the class action effective date. Problem is, I am on my 4th v710 since!!!

2 of them - charger connection (on the phone) became defective

1 of them - the bluetooth never worked.

VErizon has been cool with immediately swapping them out. Cant really blam Verizon for this, its Motorola who has designed this absolutely ridiculous charging connector. What were they thinking???!!!

Hey, I have the V710 too. Mine has recently (within the last couple months) suddenly decided it will not charge. A month or so before that the bluetooth decided it wouldn't work at all anymore. I use it for a bluetooth headset, but i wish the thing would do more. I bought it before the lawsuit, so as long as that goes through I'll be returning this phone.

However, I do like verizon so i'll prolly end up signing up with verizon again despite the lack of complete bluetooth options.

Anyway! I have been re-charging my battery by using my gf's phone (same one), but we recently broke up so i won't be able to do this anymore. It was a hastle anyway and I really need to be able to charge the fone more and get bluetooth again.

How did you go...

How did you go about returning the phone and getting a replacement? It looks like there's a year warranty but i can't find any details on the actual process. I bought the phone through a reseller, inphonic, is that an issue? Thanks.

Walk into your local VZW store and say this phone won't charge anymore. If they can recreate it and prove it's not your charger, they should replace it in store. If it is your charger, however, you will need to purchase a new one.

I am in the same situation as others: passed the 1 year warrenty, contract expires in July 06, no insurance. Verizon is jerking me around. They are not there for you when you need them, I have been with them forever. Anyways, to get back on the topic, I opened up the phone thinking I had nothing to loose, and there are 3 pins on the inside that connect to the 3 contacts in the charging port of the phone. 1 of them became loose, so I busted out my soldering iron and a very small amount of solder and soldered it back together. It was hard to work in the small space, but doable, you need a very fine point. So far it charged up last night without any problems and said charge complete before I went to bed last night. I made some calls and ...

how do you open the phone to expose the charging port pins. I took the 2 screws out under the batter cover but I couldn't open it enough to see the port pins. I don't want to break the LCD ribbon by prying to hard. Any help would be great. you can also email me. thanks

well the hinge pulls up away from the phone when its open. So when it comes off hte hinge the lcd is held on by the ribbon. Then you have to take a flat screw driver or a small knife and pop the clip on the sides. Theres one on each side. Pry slowly and you will see it. Then the phone slides out from inside the bottom portion of the casing.

I fixed mine last nite and it works so far. I like many have been screwed by Motrola on this phone. 1 year warrenty expired, no insurance, and contract is over in July06. Verizon has been jerking me around and i had to take things into my own hands now. Anyways, back to the topic, I opened up my phone and saw 3 pins towards the bottom of the phone. These 3 pins are the ones connected to the 3 contacts in the charging port of hte phone. Anyways, so 1 pic was loose and I had to bust out my soldering iron to solder it back. I used a little solder, but i dont think you really need any first, you can try to just melt the solder thats ther already to make the connection. Good luck, the space is kinda tight, you need a fine tip. It fully c...

im in the same boat, 1 yr warrenty expired, no insurance, contract up in July 06. I opened up the phone there are 3 connectors that connect to the 3 contacts you see in the charging port from outside the phone. 1 was loose and I soldered it back together. Battery charged fully last night and I was able to make calls. Space is kinda tight to work in the phone, you need a fine tip on the soldering iron. The connectors inside the phone are flimsy and can break easily, that is why charging becomes a prob for majority of Motorola phone, this kinda happened to me for my V60, but it didnt get as bad as I had it for the V710.

My V710 would beep to tell me it's charging, and the moment I put it down it would beep again, I look at the screen and it would say, "Unable to charge"
Needless to say I was pissed off, BUT the fix is simple.
The 3 little copper contact lines, you see when you look at the phone from the bottom end, those 3 lines are all that make the connection to the charger.
Step 1. go to staples and buy a can of compressed air.
Step 2. Spray the air into that opening ,and it will knock out any dust that is in there, Any dust at all can make the charger not work
Also, pocket lint will stick in there too, thats what it turned out to be on my phone.
STEP 3. You can get a short bristled dusting brush, and run it back and forth along all those contacts...

I have the exact same problem. I've never owned a phone that had so much difficulty charging. I constantly get an error unable to charge. I have an extended battery that's made by Motorolla. This phone has turned out to be such a disappointment.

I also noticed that the various ringer settings don't ever work. I set the phone to vibrate and it still rings. I try and browse the internet with a perfect number of bars and it frequently drops the connection in the middle. It decided to just delete some of the built in pictures. I've had the phone for well over a year, and I'm worndering if the never version is a little better. Can I get a new one or a replacement?

Although you are setting the phone to "Vibrate", this is just a ring profile that is adjustable to be Silent, Vibrate or Ring Volume 1-7.

While the phone is in "Vibrate", open the phone and press the up and down buttons on the left and you will most likely need to go down to Vibrate.

my phone doesn't even detect the charger anymore. I had this problem and noticed that if i would push the charge in hard enough and get it at the right angle it would charge -- so i had started taping it up and leaning it on things and it would charge -- however, now it won't charge at all and it won't even come up with an error message.

I would like to either have the phone replace by verizon (how do I request this?) or fix my phone myself or something. I plan on getting a new phone.. maybe the LG vx9800, but i need to fix this so i can use my v710 until the lawsuit gets finalized. 🙂

any ideas?

Make sure it's not your charge and it is the phone, if it is the phone take it to VZW and have them look at it.

Mine did the same thing.

They just replaced it on Saturday. They told me it doesn't affect the settlement.

I'd go get a new one, why not?

The only thing that sux is that I couldn't get old saved TXTs to transfer, piX or the ringtones I bought on Get it now.

Oh well!
