Is the VX800 Already too old?

I've been reading about this phone since it was approved by the FCC back in Feb. '04. Since then I have read about numerous technological breakthroughs in cell phone technology.

The VX8000 has been ready and waiting nine months (and likely to end up being eleven months) for a system capable of supporting it. When it comes to cellular technology this is a substantial amount of time.

My question is this. With five megapixel cameras, micro drives, new & brighter flashes and displays having been announced since the approval of the VX8000 and all described as available soon - is the VX8000 an already obsolete phone?

No matter what you buy, it's already out-of-date by the time it gets to the store shelf.
They are always working on newer and better tech in the labs.
I think the real problem has to do with that we in the US always get older tech than what's used in Japan/China.
If you go there, you can buy phones with 3MP cameras on them and OLED displays.
Their HDTVs make ours look like toys.
With so many consumers in the US, one would think they would want to send the high-end stuff here for people to buy and so that they can make a profit.

Well if you guys havent noticed yet, Verizon isnt exactly to keen on releasing "bleeding edge" technology on phones that could possibly have to be recalled. It might suck for the geeks out there who want the latest and greatest right now but 99 percent of Americans dont know or care if it is already "obsolete". All I know is the 8000 looks cool as hell and i want one when it comes out.

just for the record, id like to add that while cell phones may get out of date. Verizon has the EV-DO copyrighted 2 them, so if u want true 3G/boradband and high speed/quality for video in the future this is the way 2 go.

1. It's difficult to understand what you're trying to say. Your message is written mumbling.
2. You're completely wrong, Sprint is also doing EV-DO.

I believe you answered your own question. These phones have been "announced." After FCC approval, then it will be another 11 months to retail.

so, just like with the ever increasing technology of computers, you can buy the best available today (or in January) or wait for the next thing that will be even better. It's just a matter of when you choose to finally dive into the pool.
