LG VX-8000
Lemme get this straight
It's 15$/month for the VCAST thing...but if you want high speed internet access (EV-DO i think it is) that costs extra? In addition to your 15$ VCAST and service charge?
How much will the (EV-DO) cost if anyone knows...thanks for the help đ
If you want to take advantage of the high speed data network using EVDO and have unlimited use, then it is $45 over and above your minute plan.
EVDO on you phone in theory can be used as a modem for high speed internet, very FAST, but right now I don't think Verizon offers that capability but may do so in the future. I have read of others doing it through hacks though.

We all have regular access to high speed internet on computers that can do a lot more than will ever be available on these phones, for free or cheap. Why would anyone pay an additional $45/ month to browse the web on a 2 inch screen??
Some will because they think it is "cool" and it will impress their friends! đ
Once Verizon releases an adapter for the laptop to add broadband to notebooks, I can see that some business men may find it handy and can add the extra cost to their expense account.
For the average user, where would you use it? At home, not really. we already have broadband at home, and it will not work on your desktop computer, only your laptop. Plus, you can't network it to...

Verizon cripples these phones so you can't get most of the benefits that would come with high speed and can only access their content, with a charge everytime. The only way around this is with the 8940's expansion card

Thats with the $15 service, but its still not really worth it. When they have real television on phones, then it might be worth it to pay $20 extra

đ¤Ŗ i was told by my VZW rep. that it would cost $15 for the complete package above your minute package. HE also said it would be compatible with apple computers, guarented! he also admitted he doesn't have all the facts yet. i quess we will find out what the whole truth is when verizon finally releases it. the USA Today article s...

Unlimited web 2.0 at EV-DO speed??(ie you don't want to connect it to your computer)
On the test phone, the web 2.0 was NOT at the EV-DO speed. Sorry! âšī¸ Only the streaming data, (TV stations) were at EV-DO broadband speed.
Plus, to be realy effective, Verizon needs to get a good email client for the service to be realy cost effective and useful.
As far as hooking it up to your laptop, I am sure that you will be able to do a little tweaking and get the EVDO speeds without paying anything more than the $15, but if the system consistantly sees that you are on a several hour data call, they will deactivate your EVDO abilities. This was the same thing that happened when National Access first came out. Was having this conversation with my manager earlier this week.
