Video Calls?

Now i'm gonna get the 8000 no matter what it does, but... does streaming video mean that it will be able to do video calling 😕 😕 😕

no... i believe it means you can stream video from the 'web'. i doubt the network can yet handle two 8000 phone owners to actually view each other during a call

I believe VZW's Samsung i700 already has video calls (althought the video is very small, about 320X240). The phone it self however is very expensive.

Sorry, I messed up. It can make video calls, but you need an SD I/O WiFi card. You have to do it over the internet. And the resolution is smaller, 160X160 i think, i honestly cant remember. Still useful, however.

Huh? Where do you put an SD card in this phone? It doesn't say anything about expandable memory in the specs.

I know if Verizon stays with the original EV-DO the uplink will be 1xRTT slow. Plus, the lens is on the outside of the phone, so I guess you can't video conference.

first of all the ev-do network will be able to transmit braudband speeds, and just look at yahoo messenger, you can send and recevie video with dail up. also the phone has speaker phone wit the lens on the outside meaning that with the flip closed and in speaker mode video calls will be possable...thanks for trying...also I AM A TECH FOR VZ

I apologize. I was responding with all the information I had at the time. Although the phone is capable of streaming video, judging from the 1xRTT uplink speeds, the position of the camera on the outside lid of the phone, how video conferencing is seen as more realistic in EV-DO Revision A, and responses from others in several forums, I arrived at the conclusion this wasn't going to happen on this phone.

Of course video conferencing is possible over dial-up, but broadband is a much better solution for it.

At what speed is the EV-DO uplink then? I know the downlink bursts up to 2.4Mbps, and have been told uplink is 144Kbps burst with more realistic speeds of 60-80Kbps

I did see a thread on HowardForums posted today that Verizon does ...

If you are a VZW Tech, couldn't you have answered your own questions in your original message on this thread? And why do you ask questions you already have the answers to?
