I like the looks/style of this phone over the 9900. My main concern is the stub antenna. Does this phone hold signal as well as the 9900 in remote areas. We go to the UP of michigan and I don't want to be without signal in the boonies. Also, how does mobile web look on this phone, and is the camera close to the 9900.

Thanks!

Tough questions, because they are pretty subjective.

There was a recent set of pictures from both cameras over in the Verizon section of HowardForums.com You might want to take a look. The 6100 has a white balance control that the 9900 doesn't, and that seemed to make the photos from the 6100 look slightly better than those from the 9900. Of course, if you are viewing them on the phone, they will look better on the 9900 because of the larger display on the 9900.

I have the same question regarding the reception. I have a v60i, and reception is better with the antenna extended. I would hope that the Stub antenna will be OK. Unless you can get some one to give you a report from the exact area you want to use the phone, it is hard to...

You might try "forcing the mode" of the phone to "Cellular Only" or "CDMA Only" this will cause the phone to use the extended network...

Here's how:

Press [MENU] + [0]

Then Security Code: [0][0][0][0][0][0]

You are now in the "Field Test/Service Menu" where you can force the Preferred Mode... Just select "Force Mode" press [OK] select a Mode and press [OK]

You should try setting "Cell Only" ... This will force the phone away from the 1900MHz (PCS) band and may take you to the extended network in your area (not roaming), and may give you a much better signal...

You can leave this settings area at any time with the [END] key...

This works on all currently available LG Phones

I took the 6100 and 9900 to the only dead area I have about a mile from my house and made calls side by side with the antenna extended on the 9900 since that is why it is there. Overall they are very close but with an ever so slight advantage going to the 9900 on RF. I'm talking out of 10 calls placed to 611 in a zone showing 0-1 bars of signal side by side the 9900 probably got 1 call out that the 6100 did not. The 6100 has the more optimistic signal strengh indicator though sometimes showing a 1 bar and can't get a call out whereas the 9900 will show no bars sometimes and get a call out.

So based on signal alone the 9900 is the way to go but based on a phone I have to use every day in all situations I'll still take the 6100 hands dow...
